It's lovely to see the Castle restored and back in business, the interiors have been extremely well done. We just had a meal there in the evening, and our experiences match Kevin F where he correctly identifies the biggest issues of lack of staff and lack of experience. The first clue for me was a beautifully set table for four but only one menu, where the one alongside had three menus plus the specials clipboard. Yes, I know it's only a small point but it shows they haven't quite got there yet. Although the waiting staff were struggling they were friendly and helpful and made some excellent recommendations including the best chocolate brownie I have ever eaten! The menu had ample choice and our meals were excellent.
Like Kevin F we sat in the main dining hall (on your left as you enter the building) which was fine for larger parties but lacked any intimacy. As this room is waitress-served I wonder if the staffing problems are confined to this room. Next time I will turn right and dine in the bar area which looks cosier and where you take your food order to the bar.
Don't be put off by these teething problems, the interior is lovely and the food is fine. I suspect by the time the staff have survived the Christmas madness all will be well.

Had an intimate midweek dinner for two this week. Firslty the positives:- It's great to see the place open again after a magnificent restoration project, I wish them all much success. It's a landmark building in Ryde and as grandiose inside as much as it is outside. The large, square main dining hall is tastefully decorated and furnished providing a lovely ambient atmosphere for Dinner. The food was excellent - no complaints, worth the wait. Some constructive feedback:- the ratio of waiting staff to diners was not so good, especially when one of them is obviously still learning her trade. Difficult to get her attention at any time, hopefully this will improve with experience and confidence. It was a quiet evening no more than 25 diners at any one time, but it still felt like the two (waiter and waitress) were struggling to cope. By the time we ate our main course, somehow the Chef managed to prepare everyone's dinner simultaneously - then the waitress was under real stress tearing in and out of the kitchen delivering main meals one after another. We got one hot plate and one cold - never mind! (the waiter had disappeared by this time). Only teething problems but still mildly irritating. One major sin though, making your order first but receiving your meal last - sorry but a big no-no for me. Poor lass dropped our wine bottle as she approached our table, but served it up anyway. Personally I would have preferred to be offered another, just out of politeness - it would have led to a larger gratuity. In summary, a lovely venue with great food, probably we had an unlucky evening. It's early days for the Old Castle and I hope they improve things as they settle down with a better routine. Please go and enjoy a meal there - we will again in about 3 months time.

Stayed here for 2 nights and can't fault the accommodation or the service. The rooms were very comfortable and they've clearly spent a lot of money on a high quality refurbishment. The staff were brilliant and we were really well looked after. Food was very good as well.

I had been looking forward to the Ryde Castle reopening after the devastating fire that swept through it, and today went and had lunch with a girl friend on the third day of business. The restaurant was packed out but we were more than happy to sit in the bar, and is where we would have sat anyway. It was also busy in there, but with some empty tables and a very nice atmosphere. Our fellow diners were friendly and chatty and we felt like 'regulars'... We received a very warm welcome from the reception staff and another from the bar person. It was around 1.30 when we ordered and found that our first choice of main course had run out. No problemo! Our second choice was for fish and chips and we were not disappointed. The batter was light and crisp and the fish flaky and tasty. We had a truly enjoyable visit and cant wait to go back. We inquired about holding our office Christmas party there but the party nights, with entertainment, were already sold out!! Too bad. Toooo bad.
