I returned yesterday (09JUL2012) from the IoW and stayed 1 night at this hotel. The best attribute was the staff - reception, dining room, public areas and bar....BUT....the hotel is in serious need of any upgrade - yes, the rooms are large and decent enough furniture (although dated and doesn't match) but floorboards squeak loudly, windows (with large cracks) don't open at all - so no fresh air - so the air in the room is "stuffy & humid". No double glazing - so you could hear drunks singing in the street, road cleaning being done and then the early delivery of bakers/milk bottles clinking etc

I had colleagues at the same hotel - but they were given rooms across the main road (Union Street) in what can only be described as a "hostel" in appearance and decor. Perhaps I have been spoilt - but this hotel is looking old with room wall decor etc dating back to the 60's. Those in the "hostel" had to cross the street - past the reception - and into the dining room for breakfast.

Our visit was cut short - but a blessing as I could envisage no rest at night due to the evening shift of noise. Perhaps on reflection, Ryde wasnt the best place to stay - and may go to Shanklin etc for my next visit!

Think hard about staying here - price or not - it isnt worth the price!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main hotel and away from the main street, make sure the room has a fan in the...

We were booked in here for three nights by our walking holiday company - two at the start of our walk and one at the end. Our first impression was that this was much better than the B and Bs we usually have and were we going to be smart enough! In fact we were treated by all the staff with extreme courtesy despite being muddy and wet after a day's walk or tired after a long day's travelling and the spacious and comfortable rooms meant that we could dry off and recover in front of Wimbledon on the television without crowding. The heated towel rail in the bathroom and a bath as well as a shower really helped! We ate in the restaurant each time and found the food delicious and excellent value. Do try the tomato flavoured butter! One of our best hotel experiences.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel one night before getting the ferry back to the mainland the next morning. We just happened upon the place on the high street, and thought we'd have a look. My first impression of the place upon walking on to reception was 'This is posh - its going to cost a fortune' - and what with being of vaguely limited means, thought it might be too much. It wasn't - £85 for a double room.

Reception were very helpful and pleasant, although a bit more of a direction to the car park would have been helpful. May I suggest a little map to show how to get to it?

The room itself was MASSIVE! We could have lived in it! Comfy bed, nice comfy chairs and an OK view. One thing however, the room was clean but maybe a little detail attention could be drawn to the decoration a little. A few scratches and bangs here and there were evident. Not a major concern, but it would make it a 5 out of 5 from me.

Breakfast was nice, served well - and with a vast time window to have it in.

I would recommend this hotel as a good place to stay, and if I'm over that way again - I'll be back!

One more thing, I was told the wifi would only work in a couple of areas of the hotel downstairs. It doesn't ONLY work there - I managed to get it in my room, :-)

My wife and i were very happy with this wonderfull hotel after the one we were going to stay in had a fire, not knowing anything about this area living on the other side of the world it was a great joy to be treated as if we were the only people staying in the hotel nothing was to much trouble. After finishing a 16 day coach tour of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales we then travelled to the Isle of Wight for a few days we had a fair bit of laundry to do the hotel did it at a very reasonable cost which allowed us to have a look around the island without my wife wasting time doing the chores. Thank you once again to the managment and staff of Yelfs Hotel for our fantastic stay .

Room Tip: Top floor with views across to Portsmouth.

Spent 3 nights here as a base for the Festival and was not disappointed. From check in to check out the staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms big and comfortable but "a little frayed round the edges". Breakfast was excellent. Public areas very comfortable and service was fantastic.
Will definitely be back, hopefully for next years festival if the line-up is as good as this years!

Room Tip: Rooms not overlooking Union St will be quieter.

Have stayed here for the festival for a few years now, Rooms and Breakfast are good and location excellent for our needs. Reasonable prices and nice friendly team all make for a very enjoyable festival weekend - they even provided bin liners for our very muddy wellies this year. Thanks Yelfs and here's to 2013! We love Ryde and the IOW music festival and of course Yelfs, See you all next year

Our group have just come back from their stay in Yelf's Hotel for three nights, D, B & B...very inclement weather so it helped that they had comfort when they returned to the hotel each evening having spent the day viewing gardens.
No standard rooms here - each a little unusual and different but all exceptionally clean and comfortable. Instant service and helpfulness from staff for any request - opening windows, extra heating, a non-working kettle was replaced within 5 minutes of call to reception with a new one...and all praised the evening meal which for a group in other hotels can be mediochre - but here, was excellent. Only slight fault was that a couple of our group were placed in the annexe - and although their rooms were perfectly comfortable - they feft a little distanced from the rest. Service and curtesy from booking to departure was exemplary from all members of the staff. Hotel is situated within walking distance of the ferry and is surrounded by small interesting shops.

Room Tip: Rooms vary greatly - some of the attic rooms may not suit taller people - but the linking stairs and...
