“A hidden gem with red squirrels”
Reviewed 28 October 2012

We chose to stay at Newnham Farm because it was close to Briddlesford Woods where we were taking part in a PTES dormice encounter. The other reviews here were promising and we were not disappointed. Diana is an engaging and welcoming host, with John, and we felt very much at home. The many thoughtful touches in the spacious bedroom (homemade shortbread, chilled water and milk, bedside torches ...) made it feel like a home-from-home.
On our arrival in the grey drizzle we enjoyed tea and shortbread with Diana and John in the farmhouse kitchen whilst being treated to a display of acrobatics by the red squirrels on the patio trying to get the nuts from the bird feeder.
From several eating recommendations by Diana and John we chose the local White Hart on the first night and the Taverners at Godshill the second day, both of which were very good.
After a good night's sleep, breakfasts were excellent including homemade berry compote, eggs from their own hens and toasted homemade bread with Diana's own jams and marmalade.
We look forward to a return visit.

After a long and arduous 70 mile bike ride round the island, I really wanted to stay somewhere where I felt totally cossetted and comfortable, in a relaxed environment with all the home comforts around me - and I totally found all of these things at Newnham Farm. Diana was a very gracious host who cared completely for us as her guests. The homemade shortbreads, fresh jugs of milk and chilled water in the fridge we just some of the really wonderful touches in the room. I was particularly tickled by the little torches left on each bedside table so one could find their bearings in the night without disturbing ones partner!
Breakfast was fabulous, again with a wonderful selection of homemade berry compote (no doubt this changes with the season and is grown on the farm), jams and bread. All served in the very grand by comfortable dining room, complete with huge fireplace.
I wished we had more time to throughly enjoy some of the 350 acres around the hotel but we will for certain, be making a return visit before long to do just that - and enjoy another amazing night in those oh-so luscious beds! Thank you Diana and Jogn (who I look forward to meeting next time!)

We have stayed at Newnham Farm many times and each time we love it more. Set in the most gorgeous countryside the farmhouse is absolutely charming. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated and are equipped with absolutely everything you could possibly want for your stay. Di and John Cleaver, the owners, are the most welcoming and delightful couple who make you feel so at home that you never want to leave. And as for the breakfasts... just heaven. Having travelled extensively we can honestly say that we have never found another bed and breakfast that comes close to Newnham Farm. It is simply the best.

This is the very best b and b we have ever stayed in. The most beautiful house, spotlessly clean and comfortable. We loved going back to our room after a day out, crisp white bedlinen, comfortable armchairs, shortbread for afternoon tea. Di and John are excellent hosts, so friendly and full of useful information to help us enjoy their wonderful island. We have the best sleep there, so peaceful. Then breakfast fit for a king. Always a delicious fruit course, yesterday, fresh raspberries from Di's kitchen garden. Then a cooked dish, chosen that morning,(none of that ordering the night before nonsense) followed by toast and delicious home made preserves.Newnham Farm is one of my favourite places, it must be as we have been visiting for 12 years! Sitting out on their patio in the sunshine, eating Victoria sponge cake with a glass of wine, watching the red squirrels and the ducks on the pond is heavenly. Thanks John and Di for another marvellous stay. Full marks from a very fussy visitor!

I stayed here some time ago but was reminded about it recently and thought I'd add a review. Newnham Farm is a one of those places I would definitely categorise as a 'real gem of a find'; a warm welcome to a beautiful and obviously loved home greeted us on arrival and from then on nothing was too much trouble. I'm sure Di is asked the same questions over and over but if she is then she doesn't seem to mind answering them with a smile and genuine interest. The rooms are very comfortable (we stayed in both during our time there) and a pleasure to rest in after exploring. Breakfast in the charming dining room was a feast of fabulous homemade and local fayre that left little room for lunch. Perfect.

Excellent B & B. Beautiful farmhouse. Very friendly. Room has everything (my wife was getting frustrated thinking she'd left her emery boards behind and then we found one in the room).
Di is very bubbly and was looking after grandchildren when we were there. Breakfast was superb (despite the Raeburn going out the night before). Really splendid place.

We stayed for two nights before attending a Wedding and loved it. Di and her husband were very friendly and informative, and the grounds were wonderful with ducks waddling around at that ease. We also saw red squirrels from the patio. The lake was very tranquil.

Accommodation was to a very high standard with everything thought of, including a fridge with fresh milk. Breakfast was served in a separate dining room, with solid oak floors, and impressive furniture. Fresh raspberries, blue berries, and other fruits were available, as well as the usual breakfast choice.

We were fortunate that the weather was so good, but it proved to be an excellent choice, with local walks nearby.
