“A wonderful place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2012

Having been to the Isle of White before we had experienced the difficulties of finding a traditional and welcoming place that hadn't been ripped apart to fit as many tourists in as possible.
With the Boat house we found an absolute gem of a place. The inn is beautifully presented and the selction of wines and beers is first class. The menu was every thing you would hope for being on the sea front, with a great selction of fresh fish as well as all the old favourites.
Our room was lovely, with a charming view across the sea. It was suprisingly relaxing watching the huge cargo ships drift by with Portsmouth in the background. The only issue I would have with the room is that it is so light and with no blackout curtains be prepared to wake as soon as the sun comes up. It could be argued that you wouldn't want to sleep in when you have a great view though.
Breakfast was exceptional with a good choice of locally sourced products and it is something they clearly pride themselves on.
The staff were so friendly and welcoming and although we only stayed the one night we were made to feel like regular visitors.
I think we have finally found a place on the beautiful island that ticks all the boxes for a great value, relaxing and traditional stay. Without a doubt we will return.

Room Tip: Worth spending that little bit extra to ensure a sea view

We booked this accommodation after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor - we stayed in room 404 which has a great view out across the Solent towards Portsmouth. The room is very clean and well decorated and is of a decent size and the bed is very comfortable - the shower is really powerful and just what you need to gear up for the day ahead of you! There are 2 issues which took away from our stay - the first is the acoustics from the bar beneath the room in that you can almost make out word for word what is being said at the tables directly below. Fortunately, we were not staying on a busy night and the noise subsided early. The other issue is that the curtains are extremely thin and even on a dismal, grey and wet morning we were awoken very early as the room was so bright - they really need to put blackout blinds in there as I can only imagine how bright it would be on a summer morning!! It's a shame as other than these two details, we had a fantastic stay and the food was exceptional. The evening meal was extremely good and the staff were more than happy to deliver a cheeseboard to our room - the breakfast was also superb. The staff were very polite and attentive, but didn't really seem concerned about the issues that I mentioned above when checking out. All in all though a great place to stay.

Room Tip: Room 404 has great views across the Solent, but be aware of the brightness of the room from early in...

Stayed here for a couple of nights in February 2012. A quiet spot but easy to get around this part of the Isle. Made to feel very welcome by the staff; room was comfortable and just across the road from the sea, with views across to Portsmouth and able to watch the large boats sail by in the distance. Ate there two nights running and there was no problem with my request for gluten free food so great for fellow coeliacs. Special food deals Mondays-Thursdays. Definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Bay fronted room, sorry can't remember the number!

Stayed New Year 2012, paid £110/night for en suite double facing the sea.

We were looking for a homely IoW B&B for a post New Year break and it seemed to us that the Island is in precious short supply of these unless you rent a cottage. Luckily we came upon this gem of a place in Seaview - prices are a good margin higher than the average, but as I say, the competition is pretty poor.

Very comfortable, spotless room with 'New England' colour scheme, lots of pillows on the bed and great sea view as advertised. Cooked breakfast was very good indeed, also apparently local produce - not the standard, unattractive B&B fare you often find. Whole property appeared to be recently refurbished throughout to a high standard, including exterior. I would just say that it was a great shame some of our bathroom floor tiles were pretty loose underfoot.. if they can get this fixed it would have been perfect.

We ate one night in the restaurant and enjoyed a very nice meal at a decent price.

The choice on the IoW appears to be between utterly soulless, functional boxes at most B&Bs for around £50 and far more homely, well appointed rooms offered by a few places like this around £100. We chose the latter! The Boat House has other sister properties.. all seem to be of a similar high quality. Good find.

My wife and I have taken many holidays on the Isle of Wight and since our last visit was back in 2004 we decided it was time for a return visit. Based on the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor we chose The Boathouse (a pub/restaurant with rooms) and we were not disappointed.

The location of the Boathouse is wonderful with lovely views across the Solent and yes we could lie in bed in room 402 and view the passing ships. It is located just across a fairly quiet road from the sea and on the opposite corner to an entrance to Puckpool Park. You can walk the coastal path in one direction to Ryde or walk in the other direction to Seaview.

We loved our room 402 and as can be seen from the excellent website all rooms are furnished in a lovely boating style. We liked our bathroom which has both a bath and standalone shower. The cleanliness of the place is a credit to the lady who looks after the rooms. The staffs are all excellent, very friendly and seem committed to ensuring an enjoyable stay.

And now the food – it really is very good we ate in the restaurant every night apart from one when we visited friends on the island. There’s a good choice of wines too at decent prices. The restaurant is very popular and we made sure that we booked a table. There’s a good choice on the specials board in addition to the regular menu. The cooked breakfast was very good, very tasty – it’s quite clear that the Boathouse Chef buys quality ingredients and cooks them beautifully.

We booked our visit several months ago and since it was full occupancy throughout our stay you’d be well advised to do likewise! Enjoy it – we did!
