“Hard to fault it and excellent value!”
Reviewed 21 May 2014

We stayed one night on a Red Letter Day break. Superb location. Very quiet location and fantastic views. Spacious grounds. We were upgraded to a large room on the top floor (number 11 I think). No shower, but a very nice bath
The private beach is fantastic. Just a 3 minute stroll down the hill. Sandy and quiet
The only thing I'd say is that some of the decor & the carpets are a bit tired, but having said that, they're not out of keeping with the place. Maybe not an ideal place for kids inside, but plenty of space outside for them to run around.
Nice evening meal. A bit pricey and it's quite a trek to go elsewhere. Wine was particularly expensive with no cheaper house wine on offer. Lovely breakfast, which can be served on the patio if weather permits
I can't understand the few negative comments, especially about the staff, who were all excellent
Highly recommended for a quiet break

Room Tip: The top floor has the best views

We booked an overnight stay in this hotel following a golf match on the Island. What a find - beautiful room right at the top of the hotel with a sea theme. Spacious room very well appointed with a large bathroom, two strategically placed armchairs with coffee table and french doors opening to a wonderful view of the sea. Later after a tasty breakfast we wandered down to the private beach with its acres of white sand and stood looking at the sea traffic across the Solent - it was bliss. We wished we could have stayed for longer - we will definitely be returning for longer.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 12 right at the top of the hotel - great views but as no lift could be difficult t...

On the plus side the staff were generally excellent and the restaurant food pretty good . The hotel is in a unique spot with delightful grounds . On the negative side our check in took until 4pm - and one of the staff was rather unhelpful when we asked when it would be ready . The price of drinks were unreasonably high , the bar snacks overpriced and ordinary . Our room was in need of some upgrading being at the corner of the hotel . As we were part of a group I think we drew the short straw as many of our friends had a much better experience . Disappointing .

Well what can i say ! Had been planning this trip to Priory for over a year as it was my partners birthday. A talented chef by the name of Oliver Stevens had moved back to the island after having a few years spell at Noma and chose to work here so you can appreciate the high standard of food at this establishment. However to my horror we were told upon our arrival he had moved on. The young soux chef which had taken his place done a grand job and had taken us through the five course taster menu with vigour and i hope he carries on the good work. Beautiful hotel, fabulous grounds and top notch food.

We took all the family for the Easter Weekend 6 adults 4 children( ages 9 to 3 years). Stayed in the 2 Tithe barns which were comfortable and clean though slight problems with regulating the heating. Great location with wonderful grounds. We were delighted to see lots of red squirrels in the woods. Lovely private beach which we used every day. Restaurant excellent with a good choice of fish and meat dishes. Children's menu rated brilliant by all grandchildren. All the staff were friendly, professional and attentive to our needs. A real family friendly hotel where the children were made very welcome. They really enjoyed the Easter Egg hunt and other Easter activities. Great customer service. Kathleen T

Its always a bit of a risk going back to a place for the second time - sometimes the second visit can feel a bit diminished when there is no lovely surprise element. However, all I can say is, having returned once already, I am going back to The Priory for my third stay - and I know it will be as consistently beautiful, welcoming and as genuine as it has been during my last two visits. If you like a beautiful authentic hotel, in lovely grounds with staff who are friendly, good humoured and relaxed, with homegrown and local food - and oh yes, a lovely stroll down to the beach - you wont do better than this place! I'm looking forward to just hopping over an the ferry while the sun is still out.

Just returned from a midweek break at Priory Bay, staying with three young children in a Tithe Barn (number 42). The barns are quite basic but cosy and clean. Staff were all friendly, particularly the very nice chap who hosted breakfast every day, the food was always good. Great location with the beach a very short walk away and ideal for keeping the kids happy, also some nice restaurants close by in Seaview and Ryde. Try the Italian restaurant Michelangelo (five clean plates!) and Ryde Thai - although the starters were better than the mains in the latter, the service was top drawer.
