Staff were good, a lot of money but I do realise it goes towards preservation of the needles. No cards accepted, charged £2.50 for cash machine,£5.00 for car park ,even if weather was bad and you couldn't use the cable car or boat

I wanted to see The Needles close-up, avoiding the fun fair at Alum Bay. So we chose to visit The Needles Battery. We had to use the Alum Bay car-park for £5, then walk on National Trust land to the top of the hill. This is a demanding walk for octogenarians - billed as 20 minutes, it took me 30. But it was a fine day and the views were superb.
At The Battery we made straight for the cafe, refreshment and a rest. It was full inside so we had to sit in the courtyard, unfortunately in the shade which was rather cold. The light lunch was average, soup and quiche, but there was nothing for our gluten-free vegetarian companion but crisps and a coconut bar.
Fortified, it was time to walk the tunnel to see The Needles. Access is by a narrow, metal spiral staircase, then the tunnel brigs you out just above the rocks for a unique view. Satisfied, we turned for the walk back, mainly downhill. No energy for to explore the fortifications, I'm afraid.

Wow! What a place. Please don't be put off by the military theme since Mother Nature and warm scones are the stars here.
This has to be one of the most beautiful and slightly terrifying places to visit in the whole of the UK.
The views, rock formations and soaring cliffs are absolutely breathtaking. There really is nothing comparable in the whole of the south of England. We walked from Freshwater Bay to the Needles and saw what felt was all of England's beauty laid out before us. The sky's were enormous, the landscape green and rolling and the views were to die for. Oh! I'd have been happy if that was the last view I'd ever seen.
The walk was blowy, I have to admit, so descending from the peak to the viewing point near the Coastguard station was a challenge as the wind roars over the edge making it a rather giddy experience. However, waiting inside the Old Battery tea room is an absolute treat. Although at this time of year the exhibition spaces are closed for the winter nothing is lost by it. The staff are amazing, producing wonderfully tasty scones freshly baked and perfectly matched with National Trust strawberry jam. With a cup of tea it's a heavenly moment and has to be the tea room with the best view in England. Magical! We'll come back again.

I thought another thing when I arrived there. It is far and it is only the cliff and some shops for souvenirs.

It is far away from the point to see the white rocks
