This was by far and away the dirtiest room we have ever stayed in! Dust an inch thick on the skirting boards, grime covered doors, used hankies in the bedside drawer on one side and a bag of dirty socks in the other, tea bag stains slopped on the wall paper and other unidentifiable sticky marks adorning the walls.
This room cost us £60 a night and it didn't even have an ensuite. This would not have been so bad if the bathroom down the hall had not been equally as grubby. Strange brown marks down the back of the bathroom door, mouldy grouting, a rusty shampoo and soap holder in the shower, peeling paint, no curtain and a dirty toilet brush were just some of the delights awaiting us!!
One of the reasons we decided to stay here was because it recieved 3 stars as part of the Discover England Quality In Tourisim scheme and was featured room the Isle of Wight Tourist board Web Site. We therefore felt safe in booking this guest house in the belief that whilst it may not have the facilities of a higher rated B&B, cleanliness would come as standard in an establishment endorsed by both of these major organisations. How wrong we were!!
On the plus side the owner is friendly and pleasant, the location is a ten minute walk into Yarmouth, there is easy parking on site and the breakfast was good.
We really hope the owner just gives the place a good clean because it has a lot of unrealised potential. Not only that but it is unjust to take sixty pounds off people to stay in a dirty room that could so easily have been cleaned.
