Just returned from a couple of days in Yarmouth, IoW. Stayed at The George. This hotel is a great place to relax and enjoy good food. Breakfast & dinner was taken in the restaurant which overlooks the solent. Many thanks to the restaurant waiting staff and Michael in the Bar. In addition to the main menu there is also a bar Menu.
Our room was well appointed with TV, iron, hair dryer and kettle for tea, coffee, & hot chocolate. Also Bottled water in the room.Toiletries in the bathroom included a sewing kit. Fresh fruit was provided in a basket outside the room.We were most impressed with all of the staff who were excellent. The hotel is a very short walk from the Ferry. We took our car and found 24 hour parking 5 mins away at the River Road Long Stay Car Park. £6.60 for 24 hours There is limited parking outside the hotel with a max stay of 2 hours. At the time of writing (Feb 2014) Parking charges apply between 10am till 6pm so you could probably park there overnight.

First visit to the IOW. We consider ourselves very lucky in our selection of hotel. Fantastic room with amazing bed (& bedding) and a wonderful view of the sea, great food and service. Much appreciated.

We booked a one night pre-Christmas dine and stay deal directly with the George – the hotel is special to us as we had previously held our wedding there.

Staff were all excellent and very welcoming. Our room was large with super views over the pier and sea, with a good sized bathroom. We did find the room extremely warm and turned off radiators, but that is usual for us in hotels!

We enjoyed well-made cocktails in the bar prior to dinner and then a lovely 3-course meal in the brasserie. Food was superb; scallop starter, beef fillet main and chocolate fondant dessert – all were extremely tasty, beautifully presented and of a higher standard than our previous visit some time ago.

Breakfast the next morning was delicious – hot breakfast cooked to order was very nicely presented. Overall food and service could not be faulted (and we have high expectations!)

The period décor of the historic George Hotel is part of the charm and we were pleased with our deal. If we had paid the full high-season rate for our room at almost £300 we may have had some gripes about maintenance/upkeep of décor/furnishings in the room in general.

We will be looking out for more offers to dine/stay here.

Room Tip: Seaview rooms overlook the charming pier but you do get some ferry noise!

We have just returned from a lovely overnight stay at The George. I booked this as a treat for my partner's 50th birthday and was delighted to be told when we checked in that we had been upgraded to a superior double with a sea view. The whole stay from start to finish was a pleasurable experience. The staff we met (Candice, Suna and Jo) were very helpful and welcoming and gave the impression that they would do as much as possible to make our stay the best it could be - and they did! The rooms were spacious, light and tastefully decorated and its true that the little touches make all the difference - the complimentary morning tea in bed was one of those. Whenever we visit the Isle of Wight we will definitely make sure we stay at The George. Thank you for a lovely memory.

Very easy to book. Staff very hospitable. Food excellent and lovely atmosphere. Value for money to include the ferry crossing from Lymington and back. Very relaxing crossing and had time to enjoy a visit to Yarmouth as well as relaxing meal and wine with friends.

We booked here after seeing an offer online which made a single night for two with breakfast £89 instead of the usual £190. As such, my first bit of advice would be to shop around!

I've been going to Yarmouth for years and always wondered what this place was like. As I walked in for the first time I was very pleased! A lot of original features mixed sympathetically with all the modern things you'd expect and require from a hotel of this type.

For whatever reason we were put in a disabled room, which is no bad thing as the room was HUGE. Massive floor to ceiling windows with a view over the square, two very large bathrooms with good quality fittings and excellent toiletries. A nice touch was the bowl of extras in the bathroom, comprising of razor blades, sewing kit, make up removal pads, cotton buds and a few other bits that are often forgotten.

The bed was large and very comfy, with one of the biggest TVs I've ever watched on a table at the end.

There was a lovely bone china tea set with lots of tea, coffee and got chocolate as well as still and sparkling water.

The hotel, and Yarmouth as a whole, was very quiet for our stay, so there were only two other couples in the hotel, so we had no problems with service. The bar is lovely with wood panelled walls, comfy chairs and an open fire, and it was empty so we had the run of the place. Drinks prices very reasonable given the surroundings.

Breakfast is served over looking the sea. We had none of the problems with service others have mentioned, and the food was lovely, with lots of choice. Can't find fault other than the dead rose that was in the vase on our table.

One point to bear in mind is that there is no dedicated hotel parking, although parking is available else where for a charge, although the only stuff nearby is short stay.

Nothing to fault the hotel, would very happily return

Head Chef, Austin, really excelled when I asked him to produce a Vegetarian treat for my lovely wife: tasting menu was terrific. We had a great lunch with relaxed service in a lovely spot. Austin's passion for food and good cooking is vey evident. (Carnivores need not worry either: my slow cooked blade of beef was superb.)
