“Our final stop”

Our last hotel after a cycle trip around the Island and talk about saving the best to last. The hotel had looked after our luggage for a couple of nights while we toured the Island and on arrival the reception staff were very friendly.
We stayed in room 28 which has sea views to the side, the marina and to the rear the estuary. The room is spotless and the bed is wonderful.
On a lovely summers evening we sat in the lovely walled garden for drinks, although they didn't sell Prosecco by the glass so we had to buy a bottle.
Evening dinner was fabulous.
The following morning without a cloud in the sky we asked if we could move outside for breakfast which was no problem. The full English was fantastic with great quality ingredients.
Would definitely return.

Thank you for your review and pleased you enjoyed cycling around the Island. There really is some incredible scenery, perfect for a cycling or walking break.

Delighted that you “saved the best for last”! The spotless room, fabulous dinner and fantastic breakfast are all ingredients for the high levels we are aiming for. We're pleased we ticked the boxes and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

We enjoyed an excellent short break with friends recently. The George is a wonderful building with great character - the flowers in the stone flagged hall made for a stunning entrance. Our room was very well equipped and scrupulously clean, our bed extremely comfortable. The breakfast was delicious - tasty fresh ingredients. Our evening meal in Isla's was outstanding. Interesting and delicious combinations of ingredients, expertly prepared and served by a charming and enthusiastic team. Well done to all involved.

I've stayed at the George at least five times over the past ten years, and my most recent visit in June 2014 was the best ever. It's hard to beat a room where you can see the ferry arrive and depart from a private deck and even while lying in bed. Having cocktails in the garden on a beautiful summer evening is delightful. But the best experience was the food produced by the newly hired chef. We ate at the casual conservatory one night, and another night at the upscale Isla restaurant on the fifth day it was open. Both were fabulous. The food at the George had been the only downside before, but no more. This now is a destination hotel well worth a visit.

We have recently experienced two amazing lunches sat in the unique and fabulous garden over looking to Solent. The tuna salad was superb (as was the Sancerre)! I'm delighted that you now allow our very well behaved Golden Retriever Jack into the garden, which now enables us to enjoy your delightful menu on even more occasions. A personal thank you for this. I can't wait for our next visit!

We were regulars at the Hambrough when Robert Thompson was in the seat there. After a year + of good (but not excellent) food around the IOW awaiting Robert's return it was a treat to go to the George for our anniversary. We stayed over being East Wighters. The reception was good and we were shown to our room quickly and courteously. Having dropped bags we went out to the waterfront garden for a glass of fizzy. A wonderful setting on a fantastic summer evening. Staff were again courteous and attended to our every need (want!). Having then changed for dinner (although informal) we went to the main bar and were served G&Ts and superb canapes while the Maitre D' brought the menus and wine list. It was great to see Robert's signature starter among a mouth watering selection of starters. Main course selection was a difficult as everything sounded so good. The service, meals and wine selections were all first class. Add to this the little extras you get throughout the 3 course dinner (making it 6 courses) and the new Isla's fine dining room decor you have the perfect place for a really memorable evening out for that special occasion.
The standard bedroom was very comfortable and the bathroom was of adequate size. Great shower.
Breakfast consisted of anything from a full fat boys through scrambled eggs and smoked salmon to continental ham and cheese or cereal, toast or yoghurt.
If you're an islander and know Robert from the Hambrough, get to the George. If you haven't eaten Robert's food get to the George. In fact, just go. You won't be sorry. The whole package is first class.

You can see that the hotel has changed hands recently with a fair bit of refurbishment going on. Despite this everything ran like clockwork with the level of service you would expect from this quality of establishment. The room we had was very comfortable, clean and with a decor that was stylishly plain and unfussy. It was on the ground floor and had a separate wet room which would make it ideal for anyone with mobility issues. It is nice to see a hotel with this sort of facility. It was also nice to have Fairtrade products on hospitality tray. The George is so conveniently positioned with respect to the Lymington/Yarmouth ferry that we did not bother to bring the car. You could even imagine popping over to the Island for lunch from the mainland. The food is brilliant so please see our restaurant review.

Thank you - we were very pleased that everything ran like clockwork and you were not disturbed by any of our upgrades. Many of our guests do pop over from the mainland to dine. The trip across the Solent only seems to add to the occasion and as you say, the ferry is so convenient that a car is not necessary. Looking forward to reading your restaurant review, always good to see “The food is brilliant”
