We visited the George for the second time this weekend and can’t rave enough about the improvements. We were given a light and airy room with a balcony overlooking the sea, comfy bed, luxury bathroom with huge shower and super clean. The best surprise was the improvement in the food, there’s a new chef and you could really tell. I ate the smoked haddock carpaccio with pea to start, fresh, tangy and simply delicious! I ate muscles and spinach gratin, also delicious! However the truffle chips were worth visiting for alone, I’ll be back for them!

The garden has been completely redesigned, still under construction but I can see it’s going to be a place to enjoy in the warm weather...we will be back!

I’m so glad we stopped here for lunch, as it is a truly stunning space. The most relaxing setting to rejuvenate on our day-trip, made all the more wonderful with delightful staff and scrumptious food. I was told the hotel is under new management, and we could see the final touches being made to the Grecian/Italian paradise of a garden right on the shore. Can’t wait to see it completed when we return!

We enjoyed a 3-course dinner at The George. Despite arriving quite late on a Sunday evening after several other places had stopped serving, and without a reservation, we were welcomed at The George and had a very relaxed and enjoyable meal. Delicious food - mushroom soup and baked Camembert starters were especially good, my son had very good steak and chips and the fish pie was also very flavoursome. Definitely at the more pricey end of the market but the calm atmosphere and top quality food were worth paying for. A very pleasant evening. Would certainly recommend it.

Having been recommended the hotel we were very much looking forward to our stay.
Although the hotel is in a state of ‘ work in progress ‘ we felt the whole place was lacking in atmosphere and uninterested staff. Our dinner menu was limited and very uninsperational, tracked music of Jim Reeves, Andy Williams amongst others didn’t add to the atmosphere. Our stay was booked as Deluxe Bed & Breakfast we were in a 3rd floor what seemed like an attic room although spacious with a comfortable bed the room had restricted headroom and was in need of updating. It seemed there were justst 4 of us staying in the hotel and on the same floor. Breakfast was a little more inspirational but Jim Reeves and Andy Williams we’re still there !! We had so much hope for our stay but sadly it wasn’t to be.

One thing for sure is that it is Happy Hour - 60 minutes exactly between 5pm and 6pm. Limited to certain cocktails, no house wine, Prosecco or beer. We would have thought by extending this by another hour or even half an hour would attract more customers calling in after work or going on elsewhere.

Although there seems to be a small team, staff could not be faulted. Always friendly and professional. Great improvement on previous management.

Sunday lunch was delicious but could have had more.choice with desserts.

The new garden design looks amazing.
