A very short and disappointing experience - the sign outside says that food is served every day but apparently not on the day we were there. "Chef's day off" - we were told - not in a friendly or apologetic manner either.

Visited The Royal Oak recently as we were staying near by, first impressions were really friendly bar staff, good selection of drinks, lovely beer garden and conservatory.
Decided to book a table for evening meal for 4 of us and we were very very impressed with the food it certainly isn't normal pub quality it was restaurant quality, waitress staff were excellent and very attentive as were all the staff, we were made to feel very welcome as well as our children.

Stopped by for a bite to eat this afternoon. The staff were were very polite and friendly. The King Prawn starter and Butternut & Stilton tart main were both very good but I would've hoped for more generous portions considering the price. The salad that accompanied the main was also a bit bland and could have done with an extra little something of flavour. All in all it was a decent lunchtime meal but nothing to write home about.

just popped in to look at the place, the barmaid/ waitress was friendly and helpful, recommending an alternative to my usual cider which was delicious. tempted by the menu I had the asparagus, perfectly cooked, my husband had the steak, again perfectly cooked and again delicious. we will be going again. hope they can keep this /these chefs employed at the Royal Oak!
