We really liked this pub and look forward to another visit. It is a lovely old village pub, fairly small with an intimate, but informal dining area. The menu seemed excellent for a country pub and reasonably priced. We had rack of lamb (could have been served a bit hotter), but otherwise very good. Delicious jus and well cooked vegetables. Good house wine (Chilean Merlot).

Stopped for sunday dinner, ordered the two course meal. After waiting for an hour to sit down at a table, we were then told that there was no beef or lamb on the menu. Which didn't really leave us with much choice - well three dishes. When the main course was collected, there was confusion with the waitress as to whether the main course was actually a starter or main, because of the size of the plates. The waitress asked us whether we had ordered our main, when we said 'yes... that was it.' We then ordered the desserts, which was also tiny (to say the least). Also, our two course meal ran well over two hours. The waitresses seemed to be more bothered about clearing empty tables at the end of the lunch shift, rather than seeing to the customers. It was such a shame as the pub was so lovely and we received a very warm and friendly welcome from the bar staff. The location was beautiful and we visited purely on reading excellent ratings. Shame the service was so poor in the restaurant and very disappointing to leave a restaurant hungry, considering we paid over £35.00.

We had a discounted meal for four here through Travelzoo which allowed us to have 2 courses each from their a la carte menu. The food here is up to the standard of the best restaurants and certainly can't be called pub food. We all decided on the same courses of chicken livers followed by duck breasts and all agreed the food was outstanding. The wine chosen was a Rioja, resonably priced at £14.40 as were several other recommended wines. The bar and restaurant were both very busy, but the young staff coped adequately, despite the boss having an evening off!

Can't recommend it highly enough after sevral past visits.

Have been twice for a midweek lunch. The set menu in the little restaurant was excellent value including a glass of wine. The food was good on both visits. The surroundings are nice and there are some colourful paintings on the walls by a local artist.
There is also a bar menu.
It is convenient for Bewle Water, Pashley Manor Gardens, Scotney Castle etc.
