“Kilndown Pub/Restaurant”
Reviewed 10 November 2013

The Globe & Rainbow in Kilndown, is one of our regular haunts for lunch.
We visit there on average once a month, and always reeeceive a friendly welcome.
The menu is quite varied, and the food and service are very good.
Will continue to go there for lunch, and at some stage will try to make an evening to try their Tapas nights.

“Deserves 6 Stars”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

We wanted a special meal to celebrate our daughter's 18th birthday and were impressed enough by the website to give it a try. They were offering two courses for two people with a bottle of wine for £30 which, given the look of the menu, seemed very good value. Both bar and dining areas are quite small but beautifully decorated and clean. This place is obviously well loved by its owners and staff. Bonus point: there's more on offer for the designated driver than cola or lemonade - my pomegranate and raspberry drink was delicious (other flavours available). We were shown through to the dining room with a warm welcome by the very capable and hard-working waitress. The food is cooked to order from fresh, so don't expect to eat within minutes of ordering. I ordered the chicken tajine with sultana and almond cous cous, and I can honestly say it was the best chicken dish I've ever eaten - such wonderful deep flavours - delicious. The other two had the lamb which was also incredibly full of flavour and abcolutely perfectly cooked. For dessert it had to be sticky toffee pudding, and again it was the best we'd ever tasted - light sponge and a generous helping of toffee sauce, set off perfectly with homemade vanilla ice cream. The wine was good, as was the coffee. And the moment we'd poured the last drop of water from the jug it was whisked away to be replenished. The waitress worked so hard all evening and was so pleasant and efficient - in fact all the staff were a credit to the place - it felt like a real team effort. A wonderful meal in a really first class restaurant - can't wait to go again!

“Sunday roast!”
Reviewed 21 October 2013

A grey Autumnal Sunday afternoon needs one thing - a roast dinner! The Globe and Rainbow serve later than a lot of places with lunch service until 3.30pm on a Sunday and we were thrilled they could fit us in for 2.45pm. As always, we were greeted by a warm welcome and both had the roast beef followed by an apple, blackberry and elderberry crumble. The food, as always, was delicious, bursting with flavour and I can't wait to go back again.

“Michelin standard food in the Kent countryside.”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

Thoroughly enjoyed the guided "Mushroom" walk through the woods towards Scotney Castle with Neil , the head chef at the Globe and rainbow. Knowledgeable and informative it was a lovely way to spend an autumn morning. Identifying mushrooms, edible and otherwise. Then a cookery demonstration of jointing and smoking a rabbit. Followed up with lunch included in the walk price, four courses, individually prepared including mushrooms and foraged fruits from the walk and game, rabbit and pigeon. Absolutely brilliant and terrific value at £30 plus drinks. (Recommend the Westerham Ale on tap)
Next walk is 26th October 2013. Don't miss out.

“Great place for more than pub grub”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

Used this for the first time to meet up with old friends. Really impressed with the standard of attention and service in what would probably been known as a gastro pub. House wine seemd fine and a really good range of game and earthy food on the menu. Chiken liver salad was a great starter as was the local pork main course that consisted of a well cooked belly and a strongly flavoured pork and sage sausage. Desserts okay but nothing special but overall a very nice place to come for a very good plate of food. Bill for four with drinks and service came to about £175.
