We have just returned from two nights' in the Oast House at Godwin House. We had a wonderful stay. The accommodation was comfortable and full of character. The room was well equipped, with great attention to detail including a beautiful arrangement of fresh flowers. There was a wide variety of teas and coffee with fresh milk in a little fridge, plus a jar of nibbles. Corinna and Sean were most welcoming: drinks were offered on arrival which was a lovely touch; Sean made us a reservation for an evening meal and even offered to drive us there so that we both could have a drink - we didn't take him up on the offer but it was above and beyond the call of duty! The breakfasts were fantastic - fruit, cereals, yoghurts, porridge, one of the best full English breakfasts ever, scrambled egg and smoked salmon, home made bread, jams and marmalade. The whole experience put most hotels to shame. Fantastic!

Those are really nice comments thank you. We don't try to 'put hotels to shame' but we do try to do the personal things that they just don't. That's the fun of coming to a B and B and we always try to make it the way we would like it.
Thank you for saying that about the breakfast. We aim to have our guests go out feeling nicely full and to have enjoyed the variety.
We look froward to seeing you again if you comeback over from the west.

We have just returned from a stay at Godwin House, which we booked on the strength of all the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor.
Our accommodation surpassed our expectation. Staying in an Oast house was a new experience and one we very much enjoyed.
Our hosts Corinna and Sean had thought of everything to make our stay a comfortable one and were helpful in every way.
In the bedroom were fresh flowers, many different teas to choose from and all the toiletries you could ever wish for. Along with those fluffy towels already previously reviewed!

The breakfast table was full of home made preserves, fruit compote and the cooked breakfast was delicious and kept us going all day.

We were blessed with wonderful weather to visit some of the wonderful gardens in the area which made our first and definitely not our last visit to Kent very memorable.

My husband and I just spent 4 nights at Godwin House and cannot recommend it more highly. We chose it because of its proximity to Sissinghurst Castle Garden and other points of interest in Kent. It did turn out to be an excellent location - within 30-45 minutes of more English gardens, stately homes, castles and historic sites than we could hope to see in 4 days. Beyond that, Godwin House was interesting and delightful in itself: our room was in the oldest oast house in the UK (a sort of small barn used for drying hops, cozily updated to be very comfortable); breakfast was generous AND delicious; the gardens are lovely (perfect for relaxing after a day of site seeing and complete with sheep grazing in the next property), and our hosts - Sean & Corinna Holden - where accomidating, charming and really interesting to talk with and get to know. Godwin House started for us as a conveniently location in Kent and became a place we hope to return to over the coming years.

We hope you make a habit of Godwin House in coming years. We so enjoyed our chats about politics and law and culture, American and British. As you say we're right at the heart of everything here in Cranbrook and our own historic bit is fun itself so you do need to come back.
The sheep in our fields have just started lambing and we've been meeting one who was a few minutes old. June's a good time to come and walk our fields beyond the ha ha.

We hadn't visited Kent before and my husband really wanted to stay in an oast, so it was the perfect excuse to do both for a few days last week. And what a find Godwin House turned out to be! We were welcomed with smiles, tea and homemade carrot cake when we arrived and we were then shown the oast where we were staying and Sean kindly gave us the history of the building and the work which he and Corinna had had carried out to the building to both bring it up to date for use in the 21st century but also to protect the building and prevent an important piece of Kentish history being lost in the process. Our room and shower room were lovely and warm and comfortable throughout our stay - must remark on the big towels in the shower room - something you don't get offered very often, even in expensive hotels! Our breakfasts were really good - exactly what we needed to keep us fuelled up for the day ahead - excellent homemade bread, jams, marmalades and poached fruits as well as the full English. Sean and Corinna were only too happy to give us lots of information and recommendations for places to visit and eat and we have some more to visit and enjoy when we go back down to Kent again. We can definitely second their recommendations for the Bull and the Kitty Fisher in Benenden. All in all, a fabulous break and certainly worth some return visits. Many thanks. Well, were ready for your return visits because energetic though you were there's tons more to do around here. You were quite right to wish to stay in an oast house when you come to Kent. It's a symbol of the county and this one is the granddaddy of them all. It';s very pleasing that you were satisfied with your choice of oast and we look forward to seeing you again because there is no other like it.
we like big towels too and we agree you don't get them often enough. We put them in because we have tried to provide in all the things what we would hope to get when we stay somewhere.

We booked at the last minute so slept in the Oast House on Friday and Garden Cottage on Saturday this weekend, which turned out to be a brilliant combination. The Oast House (the oldest in England) is stunning, beautifully converted, decorated and luxuriously comfortable. It has a gorgeous atmosphere and it felt very special to be able to stay there.

The Garden Cottage is light and airy and spacious and equally comfortable and luxurious, with a wonderful library of books. It was a beautiful evening on Saturday so we sat with the door open onto the garden, drinking in the birdsong and reading until we headed off for dinner.

We compared and contrasted and my partner liked the Oast House best and I liked the Garden Cottage - but it was, frankly, a pretty close call for both of us. We were both delighted to have stayed in both. The rooms have everything you could want, fresh flowers - even my brand of shampoo and conditioner!

Sean and Corrina were perfect hosts and provided a wonderful breakfast (and we were lucky enough to have great fellow guest company), both days we skipped lunch, just because we simply didn't have room. Sean booked a table at The Curlew in Bodiam (not that we couldn't have done it ourselves, but it's so nice to have someone look after us!) and we were very impressed with the food there too.

It was wonderful having their garden to admire and roam at will. Do ask Sean about the yew hedge and the Vita Sackville West story. And if you are a Vita fan, note the old apple tree with the rose going through it.

All in all a terrific B&B, very pleased we found it on a whim. If in doubt, I'd recommend that you go for it!

We were very curious to have you stay in the Garden Cottage and the Oast House on successive nights. We really liked the result when each of you voted for a different one. We are proud that they are both quite distinctive but also pretty much equal. It's pleasing to hear that the breakfast set you up for the day but I don't know if Cranbrook's lunch industry will be too pleased to hear what we might be doing to their trade.
It was a long way to come for a whim but we're glad it was worth it.
It's quite striking that we provided your very own brand of shampoo but we can't promise to be so prescient for everyone.

We spent a delightful two nights in the Garden Cottage and wish it had been for longer . Our hosts Sean and Corinna were delightful and nothing was too much trouble . The breakfasts were absolutely superb and I am going to make the granola , just hope it's as good as Corinna's !
This must be the best B and B in the area. We hope that we will visit again before too long.

Thank you for that. We were fascinated to hear your stories of Dorset, a county to rival Kent's beauty we think. We like to add variety to the breakfast so that although it has 'full English' at its core, we'll try other things. Hope the granola worked out.
