Cranbrook Museum is packed full of interesting items and facts about life in Cranbrook in days gone by. The building itself is delightful and the volunteers very helpful. Extraordinary collection of birds!

“An old fashioned little museum, full of treasures and interest”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2013

Kept going by a team of keen volunteers, this little museum was very varied and interesting. Open only from Tuesday to Saturday from 2 to4.30. A beautiful garden surrounds the old house. It is mainly devoted to the industrial and craft history of Cranbrook, but there are also sections on life in the past and some costumes. There is a very good collection of stuffed birds, collected by a keen student whose African collection was accepted by a national museum. These British birds were given to Cranbrook school, who in turn presented them to the museum. If you enjoy visiting local museums this is a classic of its kind. There are also displays showing the work of the Cranbrook group of nineteenth century artists.

“very interesting!”

So many things to see. Really need all day to take all the info in ones little grey cells. Of course that means one can go lots of times and always find something you did not see on previous visit.
The staff are helpful and knowledgeable.

Arrived at museum whilst following a walking tour of the town. A beautiful building full of local history. Kind volunteer staff very informative. Well worth a visit to gain an insight of how important Cranbrook once was.

“A tardis of a museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2013

Thought we'd have a quick look at a small local collection, but was there for a couple of hours (they should have closed earlier, but were too polite to chuck us out!). On three rickety floors and with about a dozen rooms of varying sizes, the building itself is an interesting exhibit. Local characters have donated their collections of work tools, which really brings the exhibits alive. Not too keen on the stuffed birds, but mostly an excellent collection which gives a picture of a prosperous wealden town over the centuries.
