“OK but not `superior` as stated!”
Reviewed 4 April 2010

Just returned from a night at The George, very dissapointed as was nt advised when booked that there was a wedding reception being held ther all day and into the early hours! this meant we had no use on the restaurant in the day time nor one of the bars. Greeted by James took us to our Oyster room , not a superior room by any standards, not a king size bed as states, toilet was dirty - had to request it be cleaned!! Room was small and overlooked the back yard of the kitchen which was full of over flowing bins of black rubbish sacks. Woken at 1am by noisy wedding party in room next door. However food in restaurant was very good quality with a lovely menu, as was the breakfast.
The room was a bit expensive at £120 per night so dont think will be returning. There is very little to do in Cranbrook it is a very small village with a couple of eating places. Couldnt gey any signal on mobile phones anywhere in the hotel.

I stayed 4 nights on a business trip and ate in the restaurant twice. I had one of the more modern, smaller rooms on the back rather than the traditional larger ones on the front. This suited me as bit was a bit quieter. The food was excellent, the staff very friendly and the prices reasonable. An all round great stay and I will definitely be going to the George again.

This is a nice boutique hotel with some great history. Situated in Cranbrook, Kent, this hotel is now owned by Shepherd Neame Brewery, but still has lovely charm and great staff. It only has 12 rooms, but every room is invdivdually decorated and has it's own name (We stayed in Mocha room).

At night we ate in the restaurant and the food and wine were superb and the staff and service were second to none! We will be back and hopefully with some better weather next time.

A warm welcome by the duty manager (James) and we were shown efficiently to our rooms. Party of four (myself and my wife + our daughter and granddaughter) with us in the the themed room on the old part of the hotel and our daughter/granddaughter in a standard room. Rooms well appointed, clean and comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant was some of best pub food I've eaten anywhere in the UK and reasonably priced. Attentive service from the waitress and small but good and also reasonably priced wine selection.

Full cooked breakfast in the restaurant next morning - and we were away for the day...

Gladly recommend and will almost certainly return on our travels in Kent next.

The village of Cranbrook is pretty and has some lovely shops to explore...

You walk in to be greeted by a cosy bar, with olde worlde charm (complete with suit of armour!), and friendly staff. The bistro feels like being in an Elizabethan hall, welcoming without being up itself, with good food and wine (great by British hotel standards!). You walk up well lit winding stairs and corridors, again full of olde worlde charm, and so much better than the usual institutional like corridors of many hotels, to nice, clean, well appointed modern rooms. The beds are a good size and very comfortable. There's even a private car park to the rear, but it's a little difficult to find (in a car) off the high street when you first arrive. The old town is also quite unspoilt & picturesque (provided you don't venture into 70s estates behind the high street!). Not a hotel for the conference/tacky marquee style wedding/new age treatments/fitness markets however(thank god!).

We were disappointed with this hotel. Firstly, when you walk in, it's not clear who you should talk to - the bar staff, the reception staff or staff floating about. It's not a warm welcome. Then our room turned out to be so small you could hardly walk around the bed. It was also extremely hot, and close to the noisy kitchen (plus kitchen smells). In the morning, the shower failed, the bath took half an hour to fill and then the power failed twice. The manager called a plumber promptly but there was little by way of an apology.
One redeeming feature was dinner - we had a good table, and the food was good if a little over priced. And the beer was well kept. But we won't be staying here again.
