We spent the Memorial Day weekend at the Family House and had a great time. Our group was made up of 4 different families - 8 adults, and 8 kids. The house was spacious and worked very well for our needs - 3 families each took one of the big bedrooms - queen bed for the adults and twins for the children, and plenty of room for a pack & play for smaller toddlers. The 4th couple slept in the gathering area on the day/trundle bed, and their children took the 2 single bedrooms. (They have early rising kids, so it wasn't too much of a big deal to sleep in the living room, since they were up early anyway.) The kitchen is big and had adequate equipment for us to cook and eat family style meals, though we would have enjoyed another/bigger skillet in addition to the 1 that was there. The DR table was big, and the counter next to it had several stools, so when we ate as a group inside, there was enough room for everyone. There's also a picnic table on the deck that's pretty big. Two bathrooms (1 up, 1 down) were sufficient for our needs as well. Everyone enjoyed the fire ring near the house for making s'mores and general hanging out in the evening, and the grownups loved that there was a hot tub on the deck after the kids were in bed!
We loved that there was a small-kid-friendly playground just behind the house, and so did the kids (the oldest was not quite 6, so mostly preschoolers and toddlers in our group). We also enjoyed walking down to the river, which was cold (of course!), but shallow enough for the kids to splash around in without worrying about always holding an adult's hand. There were plenty of activities over the holiday weekend, but we were there to spend time with each other, and our kids are pretty young, so we didn't do too many of them. Sunday night there was a DJ, which we couldn't help but hear, as it was right near the house. With our young kids' bedtimes, we could have wished for an earlier end to that, but it was fine, and was understandable.
The service at the office/store was great, and the staff played along very well with one of our group who we teased about working there b/c he was sent over so often by our group to get things or ask questions. They even gave him a name tag as part of the joke, which we thought was awesome.
If you are looking to travel/stay with a large group with small children (there were 16 of us in all), and just have an opportunity to hang out and spend time together without a lot of running around, this place is ideal. Plenty to keep kids entertained (we never even turned on the tv) and lots of space to spread out too, so you're not on top of one another and feeling cramped. We had a great time, and if we decide to converge in OH again (we're from different parts of the country), we'll definitely remember the Family House at Lazy River!
