Description: Chequers Kitchen is now primarily a cookery school and we hope you will join us to cook together one day. This means the restaurant is no longer open routinely to the general public. However, there are still ways to come and dine with us and the bar will be open for hot and cold drinks whenever we are here - which is most of the time! We continue to hold our popular Demo & Dine events, with dates and menus listed on the website. We are a fabulous venue for Team Building, private group dining, celebrations and Christmas parties. And for those who have dined with us in the past we have our by-invitation Friends' Suppers and Lunches. The best way to find out about opportunities to dine at Chequers Kitchen will be to sign up for our newsletter. Or stay in touch via the website or this Facebook page.

“Real foodies will appreciate what The Chequers Kitchen do!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2014

Stumbled across this gem while enjoying a weekend on the coast, away from London. Deal is so lucky to have this fun, vibrant restaurant with the most delicious food! We stopped for lunch on Saturday, we could see the chef preparing various salads, tarts and breads and told him we would eat whatever he recommended, and we didn’t regret it! We were given plenty to eat and enjoyed trying the selection of different foods; beetroot falafel, spiced sweet potato samosas, cod fish cakes with a cucumber and ginger salad, a swiss chard, spinach, pine nut and parmesan tart, tortilla and the most fabulous homemade coleslaw with pineapple, to name a few.
We enjoyed our meal so much we booked in for Sunday lunch, I had Bobotie, a South African dish I hadn’t tried before - it was incredible, as were the desserts we shared after!
All in all I would 100% recommend this restaurant for any occasion, a light lunch or three course meal - it will not disappoint. I only wish Pieter and his team could open one in London!

“Great group activity and gorgeous fresh food.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2014

We were a very mixed age and gender group and that in itself should have been a challenge, but it was'nt. The whole group had great fun and everyone was involved in producing their own soup and bread. The cooking was great fun and Pieter the Chef was very informative, giving us loads of useful tips. After the cooking session we all sat around chatting and eating our soup and bread. We had such a great time we even returned on Sunday for lunch. I like the fact that Chequers promote locally produced food, which results in lovely fresh tasty dishes. The salad boards are like a work of art in both appearance and taste. Chequers is well worth a visit.

“Fantastic family reunion”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2014

17 family members and friends took part in a group cookery lesson early Saturday morning under the watchful and amused eye of Pieter. We laughed and joked and managed to make Tuscan bean soup and cheesy beer bread within one hour. Then we had the wonderful task of eating it all up for lunch. Great fun and effective bonding session!! Later that evening we had a delicious flavoured or plain (depending on your taste) hog roast and selection of very imaginative salads. Amazing food and so healthy. Sunday lunch was a definite must and yet again the menu delighted us all. A South African bobbito (unsure of spelling??) was delicious and again the platter of salds was incredible. Chequers Restaurant is in a delightful setting on the edge of a golf course with short walk to the sea for a dip if the mood takes. Plenty of outdoor seating if the sun is shining and lots of lovely drinks in the Sunshine Bar if you are just passing through. Definitely worth a visit - quirky and interesting . You won't be disappointed. (Also wheelchair access)

“Nice food but strange set up”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014 via mobile

Went to the chequers with ten friends for dinner and had a mixed experience, the food was good but the way it was served left a lot to be desired and the portions were small. The starters were fine I had tortilla it was ok not amazing and not lots of it but quite tasty. All was good until the main event one of their signature dishes is rotisserie chicken and 8 of our ten people had the chicken. They placed two big boards of salad at either end of the table which was fine and quite tasty and then one silver dish of chicken and that went in the middle I assumed there would be one of those per couple or at least three for the table... No there was one. I had half a breast of chicken and a small leg. There were then two largish dishes of chips that were lovely chips but again two between 8, the chef did say if you need more chips shout but just give us enough for 8 in the first place.
Service was ok but just really feel that the portions and way of serving was all wrong. I still think they miscalculated the chicken but there you go. I just think when you are on all long table in a half decent restaurant you should not have to ask for the chips to be passed down the table! Was with friends that are locals and use it often so was not going to make a fuss on the night.

“Excellent food in fabulous kitchen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

This is an extraordinary place. The restaurant (in a former pub by Deal golf course on the back road to Sandwich) is also a cookery school and the tables are all in a large open plan room which is also a kitchen. You will be served by the chef himself and his delightful staff, and you can watch them prepare your meal right in front of you. We went for a late Sunday lunch and were offered a choice of three starters and two main courses, so this is not a place with an extensive menu. Our starters were good and then our main course arrived with a fantastic array of delicious salads and vegetables laid out on a board in the middle of the table. At £16 for a two course lunch, this was pretty good value and the quality of the food was top rate. All in all this was a fun and unusual dining experience and we left feeling we had enjoyed a happy and memorable meal. Highly recommended.
