The Sportsman is blessed with a pleasant bar area and friendly staff but the food is not adventurous. Most recent visit was for an acceptable and tasty liver and bacon with nicely cooked vegetables, plus a battered cod and chips, priced not too expensively at £7.50 per dish. An earlier visit had very potatoey and far from special fish cakes from the specials board and well cooked but uninspiring breaded plaice and chips, that looked like standard frozen fare. Good hygiene rating (5 stars) displayed on window, so even if it is basic the food is prepared to high standards. Worth knowing that this area of Kent uses the "scores on the doors" government hygiene ratings.

Having not visited The Sportsman for over 20 years we spent a very enjoyable evening there for a family celebration. The menu was very comprehensive and 'real pub grub' making the choices very difficult. Suffice to say there were clean plates all round at the end of the meal and we hope to return again soon.

I have been here a few times and have never been disappointed. Lovely food and friendly staff. The only down side is the opening hours seemed a bit random.

If you like traditional home cooking this is the place for you. Menu choices include things like roasts, liver & bacon etc followed by sponge pudding & custard or a variety of ice cream desserts, fruit pies, crumbles & more. Always a warm welcome from the staff. The food is tasty, hot and well presented. Looking forward to returning again soon.
