Owner description: Built by the order of King Henry VIII it is one of the finest Tudor artillery castles in England, and among the earliest and most elaborate of a chain of coastal forts, which also includes Calshot, Camber, Walmer and Pendennis Castles. Today you can explore the whole of the castle, from the storerooms to the first-floor captain’s residence. Take a walk around the defences and admire the squat, rounded bastions and cannons.

“Great little castle”
Reviewed 2 June 2012

We really enjoyed the view from the ramparts and the underground parts which was a bit adventurous. Good for people with kids too I guess as they will love exploring this place :) o for people like us who are still like kids in their minds :)

“If you love Castles”
Reviewed 12 May 2012

One of the Sink Port Castles. Excellent. We love castles and its a great day out for all ages. From memory which isn't brilliant I think there was quite a bit on Lord Wellington and I believe it is still in use but not lived in. Not the largest of castles but well worth a visit.

“Perfect stop on your trip”
Reviewed 3 May 2012 via mobile

Deal Castle is a very nice venue to visit : the audio guides and the castle itself, tell an interesting tale and when the weather is food, it is very nice to look over the Channel and find yourself flung back into history. It is not as fancy and elaborate as Walmer Castle nearby and it can't compete with Dover Castle in size and history, but it draws you more into the day to day life of the people in Deal Castle

Id, who manned the shop the day we visited, was more than helpful and helped us on our way on our onward journey.

“If your passing”
Reviewed 13 April 2012

If your into castles and passing then I would suggest paying a visit else if your after a full day out your better off going straight to Dover castle just down the coast. Also check the opening times.
