“weekend break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 February 2013

The Royal Hotel is a beautiful place to stay in the seaside town of Deal, Kent. We stayed here one night in January 2013. The building is beautiful and old, lopsided floors and doors etc., the setting is right on Deal beach, and although when we stayed is was cold and miserable, I should imagine that during the warmer weather it would be spectaclular. Deal has an excellent range of independent shops, 2 weekly markets, 2 castles, wonderful architecture, a pier and 2 small museums all within walking distance. The negatives:- The reception is not manned all the time and therefore when we arrived we had to wait a good 10mins before someone came along. Food not that brillant but ok, depends on what you are looking for. There is no parking for the hotel but right outside is a council Carpark £1 an hour max 7hrs but any money over that gets carried over to the next day Just make sure you read the meter instructions. Would I stay again YES!

I spent hours trying to reserve a room a week in advance but there was nobody to answer the phone. Finally, I got a member of staff who took my details. Fortunatly, I rang the hotel before my arrival and was informed that there was no reservation in my name. My room was at the top floor, facing the road behind the hotel; which was fine because the room was large and very confortable. However, the lift only reaches the first floor. Luckly, a young meber of the staff helped me with my luggage. My experience with the Quarterdeck restaurant was very umpleasant; London prices and dismal food. I made the mistake to comment that I did not enjoy the food to the elusive waiter. The manager was livid and confronted me with total disregard for my view as a customer, both in terms of the booking arrangements and the meal. Confortable? yes. But, the maltreatment was not necessary.

The Royal Hotel is a beautiful place to stay in the seaside town of Deal, Kent. We stayed here two nights during the jubilee bank holiday in June 2012. The building is beautiful and so is the setting. You can have a room overlooking the sea with an unspoilt view on your doorstep. The room we stayed in had a balcony where you can enjoy a nice big breakfast that's delivered to your room. The rooms are decorated well and feel warm and cosy. I really have no criticism of this hotel - maybe the price as had to book two nights if we wanted to stay here as a bank holiday, otherwise, would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone. See for yourself http://www.theroyalhotel.com/ enjoy.

Every member of staff has a smile on their faces - the chef is obviously professional as he/she knows just how to prepare and present the food. The whole team cannot do enough to make guests welcome. The atmosphere is convivial, the rooms delightful and of course being placed actually on the beach, the views are to die for, especially the sunrise in the mornings.

Room Tip: The Wellington Room with its own private balcony facing the sea.

At first glance this hotel appears fairly old but well-decorated and tasteful with lots of comfortable seating and a roaring fire in the hearth. However, the bar meals are delicious and definitely not 'old school' and the staff are easy to talk to, friendly and extremely helpful. There may be a problem with some mobile signals on the ground floor but that's about all. The room we stayed in was large and airy and beautifully decorated with views on two sides and lots of storage space. The enormous bathroom boasted a free-standing bath, large shower, modern sink and a large number of bottles - shampoo, conditioner, bath/shower gel and body lotion.
We didn't eat an evening meal but the downstairs bar, with views of the sea was warm and comfortable, and breakfast is 'help yourself' cereals and juices with a full English cooked to order.
Definitely planning a return.

Room Tip: We only saw two rooms but both had views across two sides, with lots of light and no noise from the...

We booked a room only stay at the hotel in order to be on the ferry crossing doorstep for our early departure to Calais. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff when making the booking cannot be faulted and when we arrived we were very impressed again with the service. The hotel itself is inviting, with beautiful decor. The family room we were given was amply spacious, with a separate area for our 'little darlings' to make their own - including separate flat screen tv. The room was imaculately clean...as was the ensuite. We had a sea view and the convenience of the location for a stroll along the beach or onto the pier made us regret not booking a second night so that we could enjoy this pearl of a hotel. A BIG thankyou to the staff for and we are already looking to book for next year...this time for a couple of nights.

Room Tip: Perfect for families
