“Over priced and over here”

Shepherd Neame plc, Britain's oldest brewery have been able to reduce this and other old three star reasonable hotels in East Kent to no more than glorified pubs. The room was over priced, no service and more importantly no night staff - slightly dangerous should a fire happen - I've been there.

Only thing that was reasonable was that the breakfast was OK

A Great place to spend a few days. Staff at the Hotel were always very helpful and friendly. We travelled with our dog so breakfast was always set up in the lounge every day. It was our fourth time at the Hotel and cant wait to go again.

Fab weekend, friendly and helpful staff. The room was so lovely, The Nelson, overlooking the sea, wonderful sunrise and a lovely, relaxing breakfast! Great little areas to sit and read, very close to all shops. Good bar with reasonable prices and plenty of outside space for warm evenings.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms are very special.

Great pub and so much more on the seafront in Deal.

Decided on a quick and good value weekend away recently and having never visited the Kent coast found the Royal by chance. Fabulous hotel with friendly staff, who couldn't be faulted.

We had one of the sea facing rooms with a Balcony which was magnificent. Lucky with the weather. But I think it would be great to visit on a bleak winters night too, comfortable room, great bed and smashing food.

Go if you can.

Room Tip: Sea Facing with balcony. Well worth the extra price.

This was the perfect spot for our family reunion with our grown up kids plus partners:
Position on beach and with lovely town right behind it. Beautiful walks. Very British, very charming, cosy Hotel steeped in history. The place is well run and staff very friendly and helpful.
Food is good. Terrace overlooking beach is splendid.

Some rooms very big, others quite small. Beds excellent and large.
No aircondition which a little problem as it was unusually hot when we were there in the summer. However there are fans provided (which we discovered too late!).

I can only recommend it. Esther

A really friendly and comfortably stylish medium sized hotel right on the beach at Deal. We were looked after extremely well after making a short notice one night booking in May 2013, being given the last room in the place somewhat apologetically, and then finding it had an amazing view of the pier and the sea.

Decor is classic British country hotel - lots of bare wood, uneven stairs and floors - wall to wall Farrow & Ball. Not cutting edge but super cosy and very well done. There is a bar with a terrace over the beach. We didn't eat dinner here because there are many good independent restaurants within a few hundred yards.......but the atmosphere at breakfast was slightly cold and formal, hence only 4 stars.

We had been touring around Kent and had stayed at very lovely places so the Royal had a lot to live up to, When we arrived there was a mix up with the booking, I had booked the wrong night! They soon sorted it out and offered us a really nice room on the same basis as the one I had booked. This was St Vincent which was a lovely spacious double aspect room overlooking the old town and along the beach and sea to the pier. We were delighted. Even though the hotel was old and quaint with sloping floors, everywhere was spotless and very comfortable. Even though they were busy with a wedding party the staff were very friendly and professional. We didn't eat in the hotel but at a nice reasonable restaurant literally just across the road. Deal was a very atmospheric old seafaring town, well worth a visit. Next morning breakfast was the best we had on our trip, everything fresh and hot. Staying just one night parking was not a problem as you don't have to pay overnight and can get a ticket up to the time you are going to leave in the morning. Nice hotel, nice people, nice place - we will be back!

Room Tip: We found the double aspect corner room gave us the best of all worlds.
