New Years Eve
Review of Royal Hotel
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 1 Jan 2024

We enjoyed New Year's Eve at the Royal Hotel Deal. We had a fantastic festive meal with a great atmosphere. The managers and staff were as usual very accommodating and attentive. The DJ played great music 70s to 90s and we danced the night away and had a lot of fun.

The Royal Hotel has a superb beachfront location. Unfortunately it has no car park so parking costs an extra £9.60 a day which we were not made aware of before booking. We arrived mid week at 7.00pm after driving for seven hours, only to be told that the kitchen was closed due to lack of staff due to illness. We had to unpack and go out in the rain to find a restaurant.
Breakfast was extremely disappointing. Full English breakfast took some time coming and looked as if the constituent parts had been thrown on the plate - the beans were totally dried up and inedible - the poached eggs were not cooked properly- and the bacon and sausage were poor quality. On our second morning we waited 40 minutes for poached eggs on toast. There was no fresh fruit left at 9.30am and only one small jug of orange juice and water which were empty and we had to ask to have them filled. On our third morning, despite having paid for breakfast, we missed it and drove to have a delicious breakfast elsewhere. Our Nelson room was in a fantastic position so close to the sea and the facilities in the room were excellent. It was extremely clean and comfortable. However it was so disappointing that the only meal we had booked for each day was so disappointing.

Room tip: Be aware there is only a public car park which in December costs £9.60 per day.

Excellent help from Edita at reception with arrangements for a family weekend; excellent food; lovely building; location superb; building well maintained and clean; housekeepers first class; bar and waiting staff helpful and cheerful.
It was not cheap but it worked. The two problems I had were that the heating for the room was good in the evenings and in the mornings but not warm enough during the day, and that the hot water wasn't (hot, that is, merely warm).
I wish we could afford to stay here more often as it's a nice hotel and Deal and environs are lovely. I'll just have to save up.

What a fantastic stay we had at The Royal hotel in Deal. We'll needed after hubby's knee replacement 6 weeks ago!
Ambience, food, room, staff, everything we could have asked for!
Sea front and pier view from room perfect to wake up to 😁
The town is lovely, with many other places to visit. Perfect Location on the beach front. Wonderful.
Thank you to everybody at The Royal Hotel for making our stay so special.

Paid £160 for one night, room was shabby, furniture was in poor condition, scratched, worn, knob missing. Bathroom tiles needed re grouting and had areas of mould. Bath panel had filler and cardboard protruding out, the sink plug hole was rusty. The bath enamel was damaged, with a chunk out of it. The window sills in the room had a lot of pealing paint, and had to use a folded towel to keep window open. There were black dog hairs at bottom of bed. The bed itself was very comfortable. The room was above a busy road, with no mention of this on the website. I would have expected better of a room costing this much. I told the hotel staff I was not happy, and followed this up with an email letter of complaint. But the general manager did not even respond to my complaint after two weeks.

Room tip: I would say visit the room before your stay. As the room I stayed in was very shabby.
