We ate here whilst visiting family and wanted a place that was informal and served up food that children wouldn't turn their nose up at. The service was a little slow considering it was mostly empty but the food was very tasty and there was healthy options for the children not just junk food. The veggie pasta dish was particularly nice, I would recommend eating here if you want simple pub food at a reasonable price.

Have been to the Royal with girlfriends for lunch. We have chosen to sit in the lounge and not the restaurant as we find it more comfortable and are never bothered by anyone and can sit and chat all afternoon over a lovely light lunch. The menu changes fairly regularly and there is a good choice of club type sandwiches, starters and full meals plus cakes etc.. You can choose whatever you fancy, we've had just a starter on occasion. I haven't had a full meal so can't comment on that but the Royal is a good venue for friends to meet up for lunch and a good chat.
The décor of the lounge lends itself to a cosy afternoon with friends. Prices are reasonable, we usually pay approx. £9 for a club style sandwich and coffee. Try it! I've heard that the rooms are very comfortable but living in town haven't needed to book one!

Went here today for my mother's birthday for what we expected to be a good relaxed lunch with a pleasant menu. I could not have been any more disappointed. I think they must have forgotten to cook our order, then the meals were finally - over an hour later brought out in dribs and drabs. We were still missing a whitebait (had ordered 2).....to be told they had put the 2 whitebaits on the one plate..., fair enough mistakes happen. But the waitress then took away the plate from my mother who had already started eating, to split over 2 plates. We couldn't really believe it...really shocking service. The attitude was not good, and we felt that it would have been a nice gesture of goodwill to have been offered a coffee or tea at the end of our meal.... But no goodwill was forthcoming. We then ordered the kids ice creams, but gave up after waiting for over 15 minutes for them to appear. The waitress said very bluntly that "you can see we are very busy". The restaurant was at most 70 percent capacity, so this was not the case. The food was not too bad and had the service not been so lousy and without the obvious contempt for a customer expecting reasonable service would have been worth a decent review.

I'm a man of few words so this will be short. After meeting with the new manager and being. So pleased with our evening she mentioned writing a review so here we are. The food is by no means blow you away but it's not priced to be either. It's the staff that make this beautiful setting one to return to.
Clare recommended a delicious red for the women and we drank some great tasting spitfire.
4 big portions of fish and chips later and we met the new deputy. After talking us into sharing two desserts she then directed us to a fantastic sea front pub after a perfect sunny walk. We are looking to relocate soon. I will definitely be a regular thanks
