“Worthy of another open”

Cinque Ports had 2 Open Chamionships, but then had 2 more cancelled because of flooding. It's a shame it came out of the rota! Scruffy on the edges but what a worthy venue! I've traveled the world playing golf but RCP's green complexes are some of the best in golf. Worth the trip.

What a links, deserves its high rating and reputation. Not for the faint hearted on a windy day, superb condition for the time of year. The staff and facilities were excellent. We shall return in the summer

Excellent links course, best tested in high wind and driving rain. Makes you really appreciate the chap in the hut serving tea and KitKat on the 9th. They don't really like four balls, so at least you get a quick round playing pairs. Lucky to be playing with a member of the Public Schools golf society got me a round for £ 65, which I thought represented good value.

I never really relish being made to dress up in a tie and jacket to have lunch, but this club house is a time capsule redolent of the past. Compared to past rounds, we had a sharp intake of breath when we saw how far the new chef had reduced the menu....to the point that there was no fish 'n chips !! Despite our concerns, it had to be admitted that his chicken & leek pie was superb.

Prince Andrew is the Patron, but seemingly not best appreciated by the members for stopping play by dropping in on the 16th green in his helicopter. Lots of interesting memorabilia in the club house. I was interested in a scrap book on the table where we ate lunch. It contained correspondence between the club secretary and the late Queen Mother as to how "Cinque" ( as in Cinque Ports ) should be pronounced....a la French style or rhyming with "sink".....she wrote back favouring the latter. So, now we know.

An historic course, in great condition, but I'm not sure I want to play it at £130 a round . Why - that's almost £1 per stroke !

We had a lovely lunch there with very helpful staff. They need to get more people in and it's a shame they are busier, they certainly deserve to be
