Silver Blades Ice Rink should be a destination for skaters of all levels. Having skating on a few occasions wobbling around the edges my wife and I decided to enrol in some lessons for Level 1 (beginners). Fantastic! we had a great instructor, Glynn, who was full of enthusiasm, keen to encourage us all and very good at explaining techniques. There are 6 week courses for all levels and intense courses over one week for the more impatient or those who cannot commit to six weeks. We were amazed to find the cost of lessons worked out less than just free skating! Each lesson is half an hour and you get to stay on afterwards to practice at no extra cost. All the coaches are very approachable for tips or you can book private lessons. There is a coffee shop and a bar. As you advance there are clubs for figure skating, speed skating and ice hockey. Kids will love using the 'penguins'. and there are regular penguin clubs with all manner of on ice activities. In addition for teens and above there are frequent disco evenings. As I said its a great time out for a quick 1/2 or 3/4 hour or if your energy allows for up to two hours. The coaches keep a keen eye and are ready to help when you fall over (even experienced skaters fall) and the first lessons include how to fall and get back up again. Great time out when the weather is poor. Skates and penguins can be hired. Check the website for times and prices as these vary during the week. Have fun!
