As an independent hotel we cannot match the large corporate chain hotels in budgets and advertising, so things like cleanliness are very important to us. I look forward to welcoming you to the hotel again in the future.

Stayed at the hotel for Dickens Weekend in Rochester. Room was clean and tidy and well serviced. Corridors need a bit of TLC. Hotel is used by a number of coach firms so beware if you arrive late for breakfast. We went down one morning and it looked as if a plague of locusts had recently descended! Normally, breakfasts are excellent in variety, quality and quantity. Staff are friendly and helpful.

We have recently been refurbishing our rooms, and once they are finished the corridors are our next project. Unfortunately as an independent hotel we only have the budgets to do one thing at a time.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and I hope you will choose our hotel again if you are staying in the area.

Fifty years ago I used to frequent this establishment in what was then the NAAFI club. This year I attended my sons wedding reception and stayed in the King Charles Hotel. The hotel is in need of some tender loving care. The staff were friendly although a bit pedantic on timing (we were not allowed into the reception room until precisely three o clock which resulted in frantic action to get the function room ready). The bedrooms were clean and tidy but were in need of some updating, the carpets had cigarette burns and were well worn. The toilets in the reception area were badly laid out and small. In the function room, the ladies toilets were (in my wife's words) disgusting.
Overall the hotel could do with some maintenance and updating but generally not to bad.

Room Tip: The rooms are well spread out and could involve a long walk, if walking is a problem ask for a room...

Thank you for your review

Your son’s function room was booked from 3pm, and unfortunately the key holder did not come into the hotel until then. If you had requested an earlier opening, then we would of happily obliged for you.

We are in the process of refurbishing our bedrooms, and I hope you will stay with us again if you have another function in the hotel.

In general the hotel, the facilities, and the food are good. The staff are cheerful, friendly, and helpful and service is good. Despite a large crowd, the restaurant staff coped very well. On that score we have no complaints and the score is good.

The rooms are clean and tidy although a little more attention should be given to cleaning under the bed and the bathroom ceramics. The shower heads and taps need some modernisation, and an increase in water pressure would be very welcome. Improved air handling won't go amiss either. But again no complaints, but on a whole average.

Understandably the building is old but in this day and age modifications for improved disabled access should be given serious consideration. The entrance is fine with ramps and automatic doors, but access to the rooms is difficult for a wheelchair bound person. Access to the ground floor room zone could be improved by, widening the door to at least 90cm and providing an electronic door opening push button. More thought to modifying the layout of one or two rooms to facilitate and improve wheelchair access is advisable e.g. wider room door and wider bathroom door. I also suggest extra grab handle locations and non-slip floor tiles in the shower, as well as a non slip base for baths.

My comments are not meant nor should be taken negatively, but as a view to improvements which will enhance hotel services.
I have stayed at this hotel many times and I like it, but my overall review has to be 'average'.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are larger, but all the rooms are comfortable and good enough for short term stay...

We do have plans to create a wheelchair friendly room, and that should be in place for the end of the year.

I thank you for your comments, and they will be very helpful when the work is being done.

I look forward to welcoming you in the future, and hopefully you will be happy with our new room.

It might not be the prettiest building from the outside, and just a little tricky to find but once found its all there for you. Friendly staff, well appointed room with everything you expect, lovely breakfast the following morning and excellent value for money.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and found us to be excellent value for money.

That is one of our main priorities as an independent hotel , with the current trend of chain hotels taking over the country.

We held our wedding reception here at the king charles and had the best time. From the moment myself and my wife checked in we could not fault it. The bar staff was fantastic in dealing with all our guests. Reception staff delt with all our party who stayed at the hotel with speed and efficency. And as for the staff who made our party was outstanding even the doorman helping my wife back to the main reception as it was raining. Would gladly hold a future party and stay again. Keep up the hard work guys

Thank you for your recent review

I am so happy to read a review that gives our staff credit for the excellent work they put in. So often people are quick to blame when things go wrong, and the staff on duty normally receive the short end of the stick on these occasions.

I look forward to welcoming you to another function at the hotel.
