We had a family meal for Mother's Day for 10 people. The menu was mostly variants of roast dinner for £8.95 which suited most of the family.

I am vegetarian and the only option was vegetable and cheese pie (good job I am not a vegan). I resent paying the same as a meat roast for something that was so much cheaper to produce so went for the only vegetarian starter which was "chunky" vegetable soup.

Since it was priced at £4.95 (or £4.25) I was expecting a decent soup, warm quality bread etc. It turned out to be a rather small bowl of quite watery soup and a roll that was just off being cold. Not chunky at all. Taste was very blah. Definitely not worth nearly £5.

As it was a starter I can understand the very small portion but for that price I would expect better quality.

The rest of the family enjoyed their meals and the desserts were very good. Service was also very friendly and helpful. They also did a children's version of the roast for £4.95 when asked which was good.

I've had curry from the main menu before which is exceptional, so had to try out the curry night, well they had lots of choice from mild through to hot, chicken, lamb they had it all. Eat as much as you can for only £10, amazing. Great atmosphere, staff on point super evening will be back for the next one!

How refreshing to be welcomed and looked openly in the eye, by all the staff, when entering a pub. No grating chorus of 'Are you all right' or 'Guys', just a bright and warm 'Good evening and hello'. Equally it was very clear that the Landlord and Landlady are leading from the front and not leaving the business to be run by disinterested youth in their absence as seems to be becoming a bit of a pattern in what should be traditional pubs.
The pub is traditional and full of interesting artefacts to wonder over. With a hug log burner at each end of the mainsalon it doesn't lack for warmth either. Sadly a bit of artex and wood panelling must have crept in during the days of 'modernisation' but even that could be classed as vintage these days!
The food was hearty and unfussy. Not a chipotle, pomegranate seed or chorizo in sight! Lovely potato Dauphinoise was served with the pork escalope and pork belly and the grilled goat cheese was yummy. Helpings proved too generous for us so sadly we could not progress to discover the desserts. A compact menu well delivered reflected sound planning.
All the team were able to talk about the food and the pub with confidence and were friendly and caring.
The pub embraces both local drinkers and passing trade and I can imagine on a busy night it would be a sociable and bustling venue. How nice to have discovered a 'proper pub'. Can't wait to try a Sunday lunch.

We had a wake here today for my partner's grandad as he used to like to eat in this pub.
The buffet was incredible and the staff were friendly and attentive.
