We visited today for a Santa Special. The station was very well decorated, the refreshments were good, the staff were friendly and helpful and the little trains are always good fun! The event was seamlessly organised - we will definitely come again.

“Two More Superb Occasions”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2015

This is rather a long time following our very exciting train trip. On 19 September to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we joined the train at Hythe in the evening and sped down to Dungeness, for the most perfect meal, travelling in the Royal Saloon, in which incidentally our dear Queen had enjoyed a journey quite a few years ago. We felt very privileged to travel in such a very grand carriage, complete with rugs to keep us warm and also for me to sit on in the café!! The meal was absolutely delicious and served so quickly. It was a truly memorable evening and hopefully we can repeat. Thank you to everyone for making our journey so special.

And then at half term we enjoyed another wonderful day on the train all day with our daughter and grandsons. Again our deepest thanks.

“Great Day Out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2015

We went to the end of season day on 1 November. It was brilliant and the sun came out. There was a special service with double and triple headed trains. All day rover tickets mean you can travel up and down the line as much as you like. Some of the steam locomotives are 90 years old, still in fabulous condition and lovingly cared for. Views from the line over Dungeness are good - a special place. There is a large model railway at New Romney station too. It was a warm day and we had fish & chips outside at the Pilot. Our six year old grandson had a super day too!

“Rye Excursion”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2015

My husband and I took the 100/101 bus from Rye to New Romney and then walked the short distance from the Ship Hotel to the station where we were just in time to catch the train to Dungeness.

I've been wanting to go on a steam train for ages and although I had something more like the Orient Express in mind, I absolutely loved this experience.

I was amazed by the number of locals who waved as we went past. It's lovely that so many people support the railway in this very cheerful and friendly way. I even saw someone waving at us from their kitchen sink as we were leaving Dungeness!

If you are travelling from Rye to Romney by bus first, ask the driver whether a Family Discovery Ticket would be cheaper for you as we saved a little money in this way. Another tip is that you can see great views of beautiful Camber Sands from the top deck of the bus.

We were lucky to have a warm and sunny day for our journey, despite it being late October but I imagine that this is still a fun rainy day activity.

The Santa Special looks great but hubby tells me I'm far too old for that and sadly he is probably right...make the most of it while you can kids!

“Fun day out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 November 2015 via mobile

From J Boy of Derby

A great little railway running from Hythe to Dungerness

It's like being on a toy town train traveling through the beautiful Romney marsh with its famous sheep grazing by the side.

Dungerness itself is well worth the visit with its covering of shingle, the nuclear power station and the Dungerness lighthouse

It takes about 40 mins on the train which is about the right length of time as the seats are not the most comfortable, and for tall people there is not a lot of headroom
