Large sandy beach close to the harbour and overlooked by the Tate Modern Art Gallery. You can walk easily to the beach from the train station as it is in front of you as you exit the station. Dreamland the amusement park is nearby and the many shops of the town. It’s a large beach, especially at low tide. Everything is nearby that you might need.

Its a great walk in “off peak” months. Beach is beautiful and sunset is always stunning. Packed with people on a hot summer days (as everywhere). Dreamland across the road. Plenty of activities for kids :) margate is definitely changing, and “locals” are more young hip couples from London than (as someone said) sad drunks:)

A stunning stretch of coast in whatever weather. Its so beautiful and has sand rather than pebbles. It also features a small tidal pool

I love coming here with my children as i went Margate as a child. It’s a lovely sandy beach... beautiful in the summer for a cheap day out.... a few good arcades, fish and chip shops, weatherspoons and beach food... dreamland also however I haven’t been in there since it was updated although you can hear the excitement from people in there having a jolly good time.
Car park close to the premier inn is park all day for £7 in the summer - £5 out of season such a huge bargain compared to other car parks especially dreamland car park. Short walk to the beach and town from here.
I would highly recommend walking along the water front to west gate- the most peaceful beautiful place... doesn’t attract as many people as Margate beach does.. so a bit quieter when your visiting in the summer season. West gate has a lovely bistro with outside seating and a cafe.
About 20-30 min lesuirely walk... lovely rock pools for crab hunting too.

After many year I thought I would revisit Margate as I heard that it was up and coming.
The main beach is nice and would be lovely place to spend a sunny day, as for the rest of Margate forget it. The town has little to offer and seems to be occupied by drunks and other down an outs. Dreamland was closed which seemed strange considering it was half term. Mostly Margate seemed very run down.

We visited on a cold October weekend, but the beach was still busy. Lots of families, dog walkers, joggers and paraboarders. There are toilets next to the beach and plenty of cafes and shops near by.

The beach is lovely and clean and the vista is beautiful. The seafront has some very distinctive and pleasant hotels, restaurants and bars and, Turner was right, the experience of sitting and watching the sunset on the promenade is just awesome.

Came here for the day and wish we didn't bother.

The sand looked nice and golden but that was about the best part of it.

The whole area we drove/walked around looked very run down and decrepit. The whole of Margate looked like it could do with some DIY SOS.

If you live there and the beach is your playground well fair play to you. BUT if you are thinking of going there for the day DON'T BOTHER.

There is a McDonald's which is obviously fair priced and they have friendly staff and a toilet. At least here you will get a decent cuppa and an ice cream for a fair price.

We drove round to Ramsgate and although it looked like people there took more pride there was not anything to do.

A lovely clean beach. Soft yellow sand. A great view out to sea. Easy access to the sand. Dog friendly this time of the year. The sea looked very clear and clean.

It’s been a long time since I last visited, and pleased to see the area thriving even on an October weekend. The beach clean, busy with tourists and dog walkers. A lovely sight
