A wet rainy night in Margate and we decided to give Yama's a try. I am so glad we did. Four of us, all love Thai food but there are English meals on the menu and also children's meals. One of us was a vegetarian and they are well catered for, unlike so many restaurants.
The food was delicious and you can choose from the menu and then choose whether you want your meal with pork, chicken, beef, tofu or vegetables. You also chosse how hot you would like it. The green curry was delicious and so were the Thai fish cakes for a starter. All the food is freshly prepared AND you can take your own wine.
The owner is so friendly and it made us wish all restaurants were like this one. Having said that it is a cafe and so not upmarket but at £4.50 for a main course, including rice and such delicious food, it is really worth a visit. They also have a small selection of deserts and these are £1.95. Fresh ground coffee is £1!!
We will certainly be going back. A place that appreciates your custom.
Make sure you go to the loo while you are there, the graffiti is worth a look!

We have just returned from a lovely totally authentic Thai lunch at Yama's. Brilliant value for money and and totally authentic taste's. We'll be back. Even if you don't like Thai go and try the English, the breakfasts looked lovely They have a traditional English childrens menu as which our son enjoys.

For a cafe seling English versions of Thai "style" dishes at a cheap price with a BYO policy it's great... as a serious Thai cafe selling authentic Thai dishes it's not so great. I like it don't get me wrong but if you are after a serious authentic Thai eating experience then please look eslewhere as there is a much better place not very far from here that I think you'd enjoy more.

All in all if you find yourself wanting a quick bite to eat in Margate and don't want McDonalds/KFC or something in one of the many Beano cafes then head to Yama's, just don't expect a full on Thai food experience as in my opinion you won't get it here.

Hi Grubastuba, Thank you for your review, opinions do count as you can see with our reviews on trip adviser and we welcome yours, sorry we did not meet your expectations. There are many very good Thai Restaurants in Thanet including the very excellent one you refer to, we have eaten there many times and will continue to do so. Please note we are not a restaurant we are a cafe and proud to be so and still number 1 not just in Margate but at the moment Kent as well!!!!!!

How can you beat a BYO that doesn't charge corkage? The answer is to have fantastically fresh food which Yama's does. Great prices, very friendly staff and excellent authentic Thai food. I love this place and it will be my regular now that I have moved to the area. Thanks Terry & Poo
