We had a very enjoyable stay at the Walpole Bay Hotel, and I would recommend it. The glamour of the place makes you feel that you are staying somewhere very special. The original lift and the entrance hall are stunning. The rooms were clean, roomy and well presented. We had a little balcony and a lovely sea view. The breakfast was delicious.

The only areas for improvement would be the water pressure in our 3rd floor bedroom was very weak, the shower would barely wash the shampoo from my hair. Our friends who stayed on the 1st floor did not have this issue. The drinks on offer in the bar area could improve and be modernised, for example offering some local ales. These two things would not put me off staying again, it was a nice experience in a unique hotel, and relatively good value.

We were 6 men from Norway coming to visit a Lodge in Margate, and we spent 3 nights in this unique hotel. It has charm and atmosphere, the rooms are spacious and clean. Since we had meetings and dinner with our lodge brothers, we didn't have the opportunity to eat dinner at the hotel, but the breakfast was superb - eggs any style, beans, bacon, sausage, mushroom, tomatoes, cereals etc, etc... and the coffee always fresh and hot.
The owner was always there to make sure we had what we needed. She knows how to make her guests feel at home.
The fact that the hotel also is a living museum makes it really unique. I have never stayed in a hotel quite like it. I know where I want to stay on my next visit to Margate!

You may have seen the Walpole Bay on C5's Hotel Inspector, as I did. You may have thought that it looked like a nightmare and you'd never want to stay there. You'd be wrong. It's an experience, quirky, eccentric - in fact everything a unique individual hotel should be. If you want a bit more character than the homogenised hotel stay, this is the place for you. Owner Jane was warm, friendly and cared very much about her guests. The breakfast we had was far better than the nearby Harbour Cafe and we would gladly return. Our room was quite dark and the bed creaked, but it was reasonably priced (cheaper than the night before's B and B, which didn't even include breakfast). Taxi from Old Town was £3.50 - we could have walked but were shattered from a couple of great days in Margate. Can't wait to return.

Take the best of the 1930's and mix it with the best of this century and you have a wonderful hotel experience. Service was first class with the owner and her staff meeting every your every need.
We stayed in 311 an interconnecting room, with a balcony and a sea view. The 1927 lift has a charm, and the museum on each floor was hugely enjoyable and truly living museum Tracy from Emin's rather rude drawings to some unpc dolls, it was fascinating.

The walk along the prom to Margate was a wonderful reminder of past art deco glories. Free parking right outside the hotel and a breakfast buffet with a large choice replenished regularly!

One of the most enjoyable stays I had - and perfect for families!

Room Tip: There are 5 inter connecting rooms... For sunsets choose front facing rooms for sunrises choose rear...

Having had a couple of visits to the Walpole for drinks only, we decided to spend a night there to sample the atmosphere. Glad we did as we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our room was beautifully decorated and clean and our only adverse comment would be to say that the bed rather creaked whenever you moved. The grandiose nature of the place in the 'old days' seemed to permeate through to the present day and if you like a bit of nostalgia, then this is the place to try. Our evening meal in the Restaurant was efficiently served by a charming waiter from Jamaica who should be congratulated on his most cheerful disposition, likewise with the barman serving drinks in the bar area. The verandah certainly adds to the atmosphere and the charming grace of Jane the owner whose friendliness makes one feel at home, guarantees a future visit from us.

Room Tip: We like the rooms overlooking the Bowling green.

my daughter and her family stayed this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They had a family room but no balcony, as that belonged to the room next door!
The room was comfortable and the beds were VERY comfortable - so much so that they missed breakfast for two of the three days. (I do think stopping serving at 9.30 is just a tiny bit early for weekenders. 10am finish would be slightly better!) The verandah is great for drinks, and we had 'snack' meals out there - very nice and tasty especially the cottage pie. Owners and staff are really helpful and patient

a visit to this hotel takes you back to a bygone age. there is so much to see of interest in the owner , Jane's , living museum. our room was even kitted out with an iron. sea views from all the rooms . the whole ambience , enhanced by numerous original features and helpful staff , is just like walking into n episode of miss marple. only criticisms would be not happy with carpet in the bathroom and the original sash windows didn't stay open so we propped ours up with 2 cans of cider to get some great sea air. and although the breakfast boasted an excellent range of choice i missed croissants and my friend hash browns but don't let those minor things deter you in visiting this piece of living history. well worth a visit !
