We were looking for a place to hold my Father-In-Law's surprise 80th Birthday Party, and came across The Walpole Bay Hotel in February, and had an excellent Sunday lunch, allowing us to have a look around the Hotel at that time. We secured a number of Rooms for the Family and friends to join us. The family run Hotel was very accommodating for our needs. We had a sumptuous buffet for the party itself in their Ballroom, the food, service and staff were Excellent throughout. From planning the event, to the actual surprise itself. It wasn't until after our first visit, that we then discovered that the weekend coincided with Margate's 'Big Event'. Of course, there is a fun fair, but the great major attraction was also the Air Show. The Hotel was perfectly positioned for the whole event, so most of the family stayed the entire weekend. Our Family and friends have all been in communication since, and all agree, the Hotel and its Team were perfect for us, and we will all be back! The Museum pieces within the Hotel are an excellent side attraction as well.

We just spent a most enjoyable 5 days at the Walpole, the family are very welcoming, the staff extremely attentive and the restaurant food is of the highest quality but the highlight of the menu is the mussels. They are outstanding and better than my previous favourite Bistro for Mussels in Calais. The hotel should make these a speciality. We will be returning later this year.

I have never written a review before but have just returned from our stay at the Walpole and feel compelled to do so. We live locally and planned a one night stay at the hotel as we had heard so many interesting things about the place. Walking in we were greeted with a feeling, a passion, an ambience thats difficult to describe but captures your heart. The purveyor of this passion is Jane and her family, the owners who welcome you into their magical world with open arms. I'm not going to 'big up' this hotel for fear of personally rating it too highly and anyone following the review being disappointed as some of the building may need some restoration but in our opinion thats just part of its charm. Our one night stay turned into a two night stay and we will be definitely going back. All I can say is if you are presently considering staying here while reading this review consider no longer and book now.

We have stayed at The Walpole several times and will return again as we have always enjoyed our stay. We particularly like the balconies where we can watch the sun set!
The food is excellent here and we often have family get togethers over dinner as our family live in the area. Breakfast is a treat!

This hotel is simply wonderful. Being local, we had enjoyed cream teas at the hotel but had never actually stayed. We had a one night's stay on our wedding night and were delighted by the facilities and by the olde worlde charm of the hotel.

The 1920s lift ism wonderful and a lovely way to reach the different floors. We stayed in the bridal suite which was very clean with good facilities. We had breakfast in our room at no extra charge which we enjoyed on the balcony.

It's worth getting up at 4am to see the sunrise! Highly recommended hotel.

This hotel was truly awful. We booked the most expensive room 4 poster bed and all. When we were shown to our room there was some Stilton left on the dressing table. When this was removed we realised the room smelt of stale smoke and damp. The 'museum' claim is just an excuse not to renovate/decorate.
Only plus side was the friendly staff.
