Stayed here for a weekend and you have to say it is very good. Very well and tastefully done out. rooms are a good size with very good bathrooms and showers. Upstairs roof balcony was a delight in the fine weather. Service generally was good though the breakfast service was a little on the slow side but it is such a nice view not to be much of a problem unless you are in a rush - which we were not. Only slight niggles about the rooms would be the small bedside tables and the lack of drawer space but these are very very minor quibbles as overall it is a very good experience and would happily stay in again

From the moment we walked in the door we were welcomed by the staff. During our stay they were always ready to help and nothing was too much trouble.
Our room was perfect with a balcony where we could sit and relax.
This boutique hotel is an absolute gem. We will be returning soon!

Friendly welcome, nice bar area, clean rooms, with fridge. Loved the spacious bathroom and separate bath. Roof terrace overlooking front, Service at breakfast was a little slow. Otherwise all good. Close to Old Town

Room Tip: Sea view rooms not necessary as you can see the sea from the bar and roof terrace

This is a beautifully designed hotel and immaculately clean. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, the rooms are tastefully decorated and the bed is very comfortable. I cannot fault this hotel in any way.
The only downside is that Margate is in a period of rejuvenation so there are parts that are not very nice at all. Other parts I saw had nice cafes and restaurants starting to open up. Nearby Ramsgate and Broadstairs are lovely places to visit.

After all the jokes and depressing accounts of Margate we were pleasantly surprised, everyone so friendly and Sands Hotel is a gem! Really can't add to previous comments except to suggest you stay a little longer! Can understand on a very short stop-over that may feel negative about Margate for all the obvious reasons mentioned but scratch the surface and we felt it has a genuine heart!

We had 2 nights and really explored the town on foot (interesting retro shops, pubs, seafood stall / Dreamland museum / Tudor House) and local area by car.

Reculver Towers is worth a visit - good for walks and cycling (bikes for hire). Ramsgate an interesting regency town and lovely coast drive through Broadstairs. Also a spitfire Museum that we saved for next visit when weather less beautiful!

Champagne on the round lounger on the roof terrace then a wonderful dinner on the restaurant terrace the first night watching the sunset - thoughtful staff even gave me a blanket when the chill got to me!

On the second night we ate at the Turner Gallery where Friday and Saturday evenings the cafe turns into a little restaurant with table cloths / service and very reasonable set menu at £18 for 3 courses! Not nearly as good as Sands but fun for a change, then a stroll on harbour and back home for hot chocolate and listen to Soul Concert (marquee on the front) on the balcony!

Can definitely recommend - give it a go! We will re-visit and with all Margate's optimism are sure it will be even better!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony overlooking the beach - Lovely sea breeze and magical views to wake to!

Visited with two female friends on a Sunday afternoon to celebrate a big birthday. Fantastic welcome from the staff and the afternoon tea was amazing. Our waitress couldn't do enough for us and refilled our teapots on a regular basis and asked if we wanted more sandwiches/scones etc - but we didn't have enough room!

The hotel is a real find - the interior is lovely - really understated and trendy.

Would love to stay overnight as I'm sure the rooms are good too.

Thanks for a very nice afternoon overlooking the sea and enjoying a marvellous afternoon tea.

My wife and I stay at a lot of hotels and endeavour to judge them all fairly, Our assessments are personal to us, and this report should be treated accordingly.
BOOKING
I booked by telephone. The lady who answered the telephone was very courteous explained about the hotel, requested full payment up front which, whilst unusual is not unprecedented. I booked into dinner.
ARRIVAL
The first problem was finding the hotel. We drover up and down the promenade, with our satnav repeatedly telling us that we had arrived. I had typed in the Post Code. There is little indication along the sea front of the location of the hotel. I advise typing in the High Street address, as you will be able to unload your baggage more easily.
The receptionist clearly directed me to the car park with the aid of a map, and my family to their rooms.
CAR PARK
This is the main problem with this hotel. It is a dirty public surface car park which is surrounded by the rear of shops and some flats. There is no obvious surveillance, however we did not encounter any difficulties, just some unsavoury characters.
THE BEDROOMS
We had two rooms. Both were extremely well decorated and were provided with excellent facilities. My only criticism would be that the bath rim was too high for my wife and I. The twin bedded room had a separate shower, which would have been better for we oldies!
My wife and I hate duvets, so compliments about the bedding will not be ecstatic.
The excellent facility was the air conditioning, which on a warm night provided real comfort.
BAR
The reception area, bar and dining room are all the same area. There are a few comfortable chairs. The bar staff were efficient and polite and served our drinks and then went to provide us with the dinner menu.
DINING
The dining area has wonderful views over the bay. On the evening we dined, the evening skies were clear and we watched as the sun sank below the skyline. It is worth dining in this hotel to see this.
The menu provides a reasonable selection of dishes but I suspect that if you were staying for more than a couple of nights, your choices would become restricted. The only thing that changes on the menu is the 'fish of the day' and I was given the impression that this is always the same. However, the four of us dined choosing different starters, main courses and suites. No one complained, in fact most of us were complimentary.
The wine selection was small but they were reasonably priced.
SERVICE
The service of the dinner was a little slow, and even slower at breakfast. Here the plates were not cleared away by the time the cooked meal arrived. It was not that they were busy, simply poor service.
However overall the staff were relatively efficient, well dressed, polite and helpful.
BREAKFAST
The breakfast was traditional. I can reveal that there is no difference between a Kent Breakfast and one from anywhere else in the country. The meal was well cooked although plates and food should be warmer.
OVERALL
If we have another reason to visit Margate again we will stay at this hotel.
The hotel is relatively new, very well decorated and extremely clean. The rooms have similar facilities throughout, and the landings and staircase are light and airy, despite being internal.
If you do stay, do visit the roof terrace. On a sunny day this provides an excellent vista of Margate Bay.
The major disadvantage of this hotel is Margate, which requires a lot of 'TLC' to make it a place to visit. It is run-down and tatty with many empty shops.

Room Tip: All the rooms we saw were excellent, the only decision that needs to be made is whether you want a s...
