First visit to Margate was full of all kind of surprises. What a beautiful victorian decor in this lovely hotel. The rooms are well kept, and there is a beautiful view of the English Channel from the front parlor window. And the english breakfast, well it was more than enough. The owners are extremely friendly, and lovely to talk with. They were always very accomodating to your needs. I would definitely like to find myself on their doorstep again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea side view!!

Good location 1 minute from the train station and the beach. Lovely hosts, incredibly friendly. The room was clean and perfectly formed. Our only gripe was the shower which really was bad as it went from very hot to very cold, with no inbetween unfortunately. And we also thought the price was a bit too high. Breakfast is worth a mention too, good sized full english!

We booked here because it was not advertised on late rooms or booking.com etc.

Margate was very popular in it's hay day. I can't wait for the re opening of dream land in 2015 which will be A revival of one of the UK's best-loved amusement parks with a heritage story to tell.

The Somerville hotel was exactly what we wanted. Clean friendly and very traditional to margate. Central location helps if you are visiting the beach.

My gf and I are city workers with good jobs, however we grew up on uk beach town resort holidays with our parents and love the history. When we turned up at the Somerville and we were greeted, the decor instantly put a smile on our face. There was a lovely rug, flowery wall paper and a staircase with someones hat hanging on the bottom. " Ahhhh home "

Some one has commented on here that the decor is old, well I like It. If you like plain and boring city type hotels with no history or quirks then go travel lodge or premier inn round the corner. To us these types of hotels never make us feel comftable or like we can switch off from the city.

The decor was clean, tidy and very traditional. Please dont change it :( I would love to own this hotel, and turn it into a Victorian style "back in time type hotel attraction " .

Either way it was still perfect the way it was and is what people around our age 28- 33 are starting to find a popular choice.

Breakfast also very good :)

we will visit again providing it doesn't go ultra modern like the rest. Hopefully get a sea view next time.

Nice owners . All round A+

Disappointing stay after reading other glowing reviews.

The feeble shower suddenly went cold after a few mins. Owners claimed that never happened before, but all electric showers do this when they become furred up.
