I booked this hotel out of nostalgic interest as I stayed there as a child. The booking was for myself my mother and nine year old daughter. The outside was rough however the reception looked nice and familiar in a retro 80s way and the manageress was lovely. However we soon discovered that the hotel had been used for asulym seekers 12 years ago under a home office contract and the hotel had never recovered since. It appeared that virtually no money had been put in to the hotel maintenance since the asylum seekers left and the majority of borders were residents sent there and paid for by the dole office. The rooms were of a standard the council provide to homeless and we paid £80 a night for our stay. The carpets were filthy, the furniture filthy damaged and old. The bathrooms and floors verminous. The cleaner had been in however nothing could recover the damage done and condition of this. We got the impression the manageress was embarrassed to offer us this accomodation as she knew it was desperate but she was battling against the odds to keep it going. We received a refund for the second night as we simply couldn't bear the depressing rooms and filth and the loud vulgar noise ll night from other council benefit residents. The rooms reaked of stale food and grime from previous tenants. Unfortunately the nay land rock hotel that was once a beautifully hotel is no longer fit for holiday let it is a half way house.

Hotel has free parking outside and the bus stop is right outside as well. You can walk in to Margate centre in 10 minutes which has some great individual shops and you get great views of the beach and sea from the breakfast room. You have to pay £3.50 extra for full cooked breakfast otherwise it is just tea/coffee, toast and cereal.
Carol and Cyril (night porter) are very welcoming and obviousley work very hard at their business. They even opened the bar for us at 1am in the morning when we got back from the concert. Building is in need of some cosmetic repair but the bedrooooms are clean and tidy and for the price the hotel is perfectly adequate for a 1 night stay.
Yes it may not be the Ritz but it is not pretending to be - would stay again if in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room if available

Cannot understand why Environmental services in Margate have not closed the place down.
the carpets were extremely dirty, don't know when the taps were last cleaned, could hardly see out of the windows they were so dirty.
The breakfast was adequate but don't know when she last changed the fat she cooked the eggs it tasted awful.

Room Tip: Request to see the room before you hand over any money for the room

After taking the chance and driving to Margate without booking a room in advance we were lucky enough to get a room in this friendly and welcoming hotel. Carol the manager is an absolute star, the room was clean and tidy, the view from the bedroom window was beautiful and the breakfast was great. Yes the hotel is a little tired but that’s representative of the prices charged but takes nothing away from the lovely welcome and service we received.

It’s not a case of will we be back only how soon.

Thanks and big hugs to Carol love Jon and Nikki

We have just returned from an overnight stay which we enjoyed so much, we are returning next weekend!
The Manager, Carol made us very welcome and the hospitality & service was better than in the many hotels we have stayed.
The room overlooked the sea with a balcony and the views of the sea and sunset were spectacular. The room was clean as were the towels and bed linen.
The setting of the restaurant overlooking the sea for breakfast was wonderful.
Cyril could not have been more helpful and provided us with a hearty breakfast - a great start to the day!
Could the bedroom and rooms have been grander? Absolutely BUT we were not paying exorbitant prices. The modest price reflected the current décor.
Plus we wanted to go back to experiencing a seaside hotel with memories of childhood days and away from the chains of hotels which are excellent but tend to have no character and could be anywhere.
Thank you Carol and thank you Cyril! See you at the weekend!

The lady was friendly when we arrived.
Basic shower.............hot and cold taps. One small bottle of mouthwash, tiny bar of soap and basic plastic cup.
Curtains falling apart, dirty carpets, one carton of milk for tea. Teaspoons dirty. I think the bed linen was as old as the buidling. (the building must have been beautiful in its time)
Cash only...................................... Had booked in for breakfast......................but decided to eat elsewhere.
Liked the seaview though...........
Will not be going back and will not recommend staying there to anyone else.
Very, very poor value for the money we actually paid.

We arrived late in the evening, and were given keys to our rooms the lady was very friendly, my sons room was not great and found a pair of someone elses pants in a drawer there. my room was not very pleasant at all stains all over the carpet, my son came to my room to say his window was open and the wind was howling through it..we managed to get it closed a bit more but the clasps would not click into place..i returned to my room and went to bed, to be woken by a loud bang! and wind howling in to my room the curtains were flying uptp the ceiling as the sash window had dropped down, i tried to call down to reception but room phone not working. soi had to get dressed and go down to reception where i explained to an elderly gent on reception, he came up to the room and tried to get the window shut but it was stuck open, i then tried helping him close it and got it nearly shut but the clasps would not go into place to keep it shut. he then said he could not give me another room as they were full. he went to get another man to help...they then held the window shut and hammered SCREWS! into the UPVC window frame....when they had left i needed a cup of tea so put the kettle on but it didnt work...the next morning i had a shower and went to sit at the dressing table to get ready for breakfast. i sat on the only chair in the room and the seat fell through and i landed on the floor hurting my back! as the seat was not secured to the frame...i went abd reported this and was told i could of had a refund if she had not already done her invoices. i then found out breakfast was not included in the price..the manager apologised and said i should have been offered another room, i explained that the gent the night before had said they were full. she was suprised by this as they had a lot of empty rooms...she offered me a free stay if i came back again...NOT MUCH CHANCE OF THAT!!!.....i dont really have any good things to say, as Magate is really run down too......
