“Very well kept site but still being developed”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

Two day stay in a tent. Site is very well maintained - toilets/showers are modern, very clean and regularly checked. Excellent pitch marking, signage, fire points etc. Not stony & very level - easy to get the tent pegs in and out!!! Quite expensive but then the facilities are good. Number plate recognition for access. Easy short walk into town.

The site continues to be developed - especially near the toilet block with a new building being constructed so you may be unlucky and be close to this. New specimen trees have been planted between a large number of pitches - this will look great as they begin to mature. Clearly a lot of money is being spent on facilities and landscaping. Pitches tend to be in pairs (sometimes fours), often with just a low post and rail fence between pairs so not particularly private if this is important to you.

The east side of the site is very close to the railway - which may be a problem for people with young children - or who like early bed times! When we visited there were overnight rail works - including new ballast being laid and being compacted (literally shook the ground!). Full marks to the owners of the site for emailing visitors in advance to warn them of this - and for getting Network Rail to provide free breakfast in compensation!!!

Can't comment on bar and shop as we didn't use them!

Room Tip: East side is close to railway - in particular pitches 91 to 98 and 54 to 57

Dear Paul H,
Thank you very much for your positive review, as you say we are developing the site to making bigger and better!
We are glad that the railway disruption did not spoil your visit and we really hope to see you again.
Many Thanks,
The Sandwich Team

(Party of 6 - two families)We have just stayed at this wonderful site. We arrived quite late on the Friday night, but were warmly greeted by a lovely lady called Jill, (we found out later she was one of the owners), and were shown to our Caravan and chalet. The standard of accommodation was excellent, bright, very clean and really well appointed. We explored the site the next day, finding a very clean toilet and shower block for those who were camping and a modern well equipped laundry room. There is an Aviary, chickens and guinea pigs on site for the children to see, as well as a great play area to help use up the kids energy! There is a great function room on site and this bank holiday there was an Elvis impersonator on! He was fantastic! Really entertaining and the proceeds of the evening were going to the local Air Ambulance -well done to the owners for arranging a great night!
Overall a really happy, well kept site, and we cannot praise it highly enough!
If you get a chance, stay here you will not be disappointed! We are planning to go back really soon.

Room Tip: We had a look at all the types of accommodation available - from a "Glamping hut" to the l...

The site is clean and well kept and the owners are very nice. Great location near sandwich and all it's bars and restaurants plus great walks. Only complaint is it's very busy at bank hols like everywhere and you have to book a minimum of 3 nights on a bank holiday weekend which they up the price :-(

Room Tip: Get there early for a better pitch

Fabulous site, handy for Walmer Castle and Dover Castle. Spacious pitches, excellent facilities and close to local shops and restaurants. The fish and chip shop on The Quay at Sandwich is a must!! Good playground for kids and a couple of aviaries for bird lovers.

If you want a clubhouse with loud music, sticky tables, pricey lager and bingo before cabaret, this is not for you.
If you want an amusement arcade with lots of flashing lights and young children obsessively pushing 2p pieces into a coin dozer hoping to win a cheap key-chain, this is not for you.
If you want an extremely well run, extremely well presented camping and caravan site in a beautiful part of the Country with easy links to a host of historical and coastal attractions (or indeed just to kick back with a 'glass' of wine as the sun wanes), then this is for you!
You have to hope that people who comment on this site do so with honesty and integrity and therefor those people who have left negative reviews must have had truly unlucky experiences as each time we have stayed here (family of four, two young - 10 &13 - girls), it has been a pleasure.
Check in might not be what you're used to if you normally stay in chains. You get to talk to real person using a pen and paper and not following a script. It's refreshing. You have a conversation, remember those?
The site is very well maintained with an immaculate toilet/shower block if you need it. The roads around site are excellent, the pitches (if your camping/touring) are extremely generous and there's a great park for the kids that always has my girls (11 and 13 don't forget) instantly forgetting their Blackberries and iPods - no mean feat!
Sandwich itself is esily walkable with a Co-Op (supermarket), pubs, eateries and great little quirks like 'Holy Ghost Alley' and 'No Name Street'. Stroll along the rope walk by the river or go and have your photo taken by the brilliant signpost pointing one way to the village of Ham and the other to Sandwich. Genius.
We have camped here and we have used the 'wooden tents' here. We're now considering buying here. It's a lovely spot, try it.

Room Tip: Note - no fitness centre or pool

We stayed here in July 2013, the 3rd time we have stayed here. There have been major changes since we first went and parts of the park are given over to yet more improvements, but are away from the pitch sites. The facilities are clean and up to date. Showers and toilet facilities are well kept and lots if hot water.
We arrived later than planned, and given our pitch number, but when we got there we found it was already allocated and a family on it, however the pitch next to it was free, so we were just about to go back to reception to ask if we could pitch there, when a member of staff appeared, apologising for the mix up and suggesting we use the pitch we had already decided we would ask for. So happy all round.
The site was very full in some parts of the site, but others were a bit quieter. It suited us to be where we were, and we met some lovely people there.
The only down side is the mess made by other campers, who seem to think it is for smeone else to clear up after them. No amount of cleaning by staff will ever avoid the lack of thought of those who pull off more toilet paper than they need and either chuck it all down the toilet, or drop it on the floor, or use the basins to wash and leave the surrounding top awash with water. I didn't leave the place in a mess after using the place so I don't understand why others do. I hate to see signs everywhere reminding people to leave the facilities as they would expect to find it, but perhaps that is what is needed.

Only 1.5 hours from central London by car, easy to find. We booked a last minute getaway in the tent, staff friendly and site well laid out, the staff asked questions about our party and ensured we were placed in a great location which suited our needs. Well positioned hedges give good shelter, electric point, not 1 but 2 and running water at the same location. Great feature. Showers and toilets clean as well as wash up facilities. We were told about a marquee event happening onsite on our 2nd night on check in which is great communication but this did not affect us. Will definitely return. Only gripe would be to look at having a shop and restaurant on site to save walking into town although Sandwich is a great town with some nice restaurants and pubs.
