“Hotel Break”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

We booked hotel at short notice. We arrived at mid afternoon and was greeted by a very happy receptionist. The room was on the small side compared to most hotels I have stayed in. However it was well kept and had everything we needed. In the evening we went out for dinner, but did return for cheese and biscuits and a class of wine (great selection) in the bar, very pleasant with a good atmosphere.

We slept well as it was quite, and a comfortable bed.

Breakfast was good although the service appeared a little muddled ie being asked for most things twice (two different waiters).

One thing to be aware there is limited parking, although pay and display parking is available close by. This could be a problem at busy times as the car park is limited due to flood works.

Room Tip: Drop bags of before parking.

I've now stayed here 3 times, twice in the family room which is fantastic, huge room with lovely king sized bed and sofa bed for kids and massive bathroom and once in a river facing room with balcony ( again lovely ). Anita in reception is fantastic as are all the breakfast waiting staff. I could go on ......

Room Tip: Family room above reception is great

We spent a very enjoyable weekend at the Bell Hotel despite the weather being appalling. Beautiful room, attentive staff, great breakfast, wonderful location. The only downside was that the hotel had just begun a period of renovation. However, we were informed of this and it really didn't detract from the weekend.

The Bell Hotel was beautiful. We had a special room with a balcony. It was spacious, clean and so comfortable. Loved it there! You won't regret choosing this hotel. The location was very convenient to town attractions

Hotel, room and food were lovely. Enjoyed reading the Sunday newspaper with my tea in the lobby area. Staff were helpful and polite. Free parking overnight. Close to popular walks by the river. Have fond memories of the place and would recommend

We picked the Bell for the location. A nice walk to Royal St George's . It was a great Inn with a fantastic chef.We just picked it the night before we left London and we had a pleasant surprise. From the bus driver who stopped at the front door to everyone in the Inn, they were all helpful and nice. The gentleman serving breakfast was top notch.I felt like I was at Downton Abby.We came from Canada and it felt like home. I would definitely come back, and hope one day that I do. Have told all our friends of the Bell ,keep up the good work.

The hotel has just had a revamp of its restaurant and bar which is really nice. Rooms are very nice although starting to show signs of age. This however would not put us off from going back. The staff were lovely and Sandwich is such a beautiful place to visit with some lovely walks and of course pubs ( the George and Dragon has some great bar snacks).
We ate in the restaurant but did move table to be away from the draughty windows. Food and service was nice. Bar area is modern but very cozy. I believe they are still in the process of upgrading more parts of this lovely old hotel. When we booked there was a large discount due to the scaffolding still being up around the hotel. We will definitely be revisiting again in the future.
