“Good location for exploring Sandwich”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2014

Nice comfortable hotel in a good location to explore Sandwich. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only criticism was certain items on menu had run out at start of service on our first night and we weren't told until we went to order. Food however is of good quality. Would return to hotel for a short break.

We stayed at The Bell hotel for 2 nights, very disappointed with what we got. Food ok waiter service a bit slow but not fantastic, staff friendly, room clean but in need of refurb as could reception area. Don't even think about it if you have any sort of mobility problems as no lift and lots and lots of stairs. Very poor value for money. Limited parking spaces in front of hotel and hard to find spaces nearby. Sandwich is a lovely town to visit

We stayed there for one night and glad that we only booked one nigh The room was ok with tea and coffee and fresh milk which was a nice touch. The toilet wasn't working properly, and the shower head and window catch were broken. We parked in the Council car park, at 90p per hour and after mentioning this to reception they didn't advise us they had a voucher system, so my husband had to go down to the car park at 9am to put more money in the meter. Good thing as the Parking attendants were waiting to book people. We were not the only guest not told of the parking voucher as the guest on the table next to us, has to get up during breakfast to feed the meter. Breakfast was a disaster, we ordered tea which we had to remind the staff and when arrived it was cold, the breakfast buffet has run out of yoghurt, we asked a waitress several times for some more and she just ignore us. Our breakfast we ordered arrived 45 minutes later cold and overcooked. Only one member of staff an elderly gentleman was trying his best to help everyone at breakfast as guests were chasing their food. In all a very disappointing stay and next time we'll wont be staying at this hotel as we consider it overpriced for the level of service received.

We stayed at this hotel in July for one night and that was one night too many. The service in the restaurant was non existent and the food was poor value for money.
After booking a room and making a dinner reservation in their fine dining restaurant we assumed we would receive fine dining service but how wrong we were. The fine dining restaurant had no waiting staff so we were ushered into the bistro dining area where serving staff were just young girls who were more keen on chatting amongst themselves than serving customers. After waiting for over half an hour we eventually were served and chose to dine from the fine dining menu and not the bistro menu. The food was very ordinary but expensive and was not worth the money. The girls didn't even know how to set out the place settings on the table nor how to serve wine, as no taste was offered and the bottle was just plonked on the table.
The room was large but had too many stains on the armchair and sofa to be classed as clean and the windows were dirty. The bathroom had a cracked toilet seat and filthy windows.
Would I go there again? Absolutely not!

Room Tip: Book a room somewhere else!

A lovely hotel, well furnished and very welcoming. We stayed for one night for our anniversary, so wanted somewhere comfortable but where we could dress up a bit and enjoy dinner, drinks and relaxing place to sit and chat all in one place. The value for money was excellent with a great Sunday night deal for three course dinner, bed and breakfast, a comfortable, clean and well kitted out room and outstanding service over dinner. Drinks were excellent and good value for money (retaining pub prices rather than some corporate hotel prices!). Dinner and breakfast were delicious, neither of us could have wanted for anything else for both meals. Parking was straightforward with a coupon for the neighbouring council car park. Only negative was that the room got a bit warm even with the fan overnight, though the temperature outside was hot and summery!

An historic hotel in a beautiful, quaint town; the rooms were large and the beds were lovely. The restaurant and bar are in the modern part of the hotel, and the food, service and atmosphere were all great. As you may expect with a medieval town, parking at the hotel is very limited, but the main town car park is a 50 yard walk, and the hotel give you a ticket to cover the costs.
Very enjoyable stay.

Stayed recently on a golfing trip. Ideal location , though parking can be difficult , seems to be the norm for Sandwich . Excellent restaurant , good choice of reasonable wines . Superb lamb dish , starters ok but not if you are starving .
Very nice modern bar , good selection of beers and wine by the glass , worth a visit .
Rooms are good size and beds are fine. A warning to the squeamish , you may find a collection of dead flies and moths if you pull down the blinds .
All in all it has it's charm and is fair value.

Room Tip: doesn't seem to make much difference , some of us stayed front , and some back .
