“Lovely short break in Kent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014

We stayed in Heron cottage. Two adults,1 older child and 2 dogs. It was perfect for us. The cottage was spotless and faultless with everything you could need in self catering accommodation. There was a lovely welcome pack and Elaine made us very welcome and showed us around on arrival. We were made to feel like nothing would be too much bother should we need it.
The weather was glorious so we made full use of the outdoor pool.
The patio area was such a lovely place to sit in a morning and evening, overlooking the Kent countryside and the large pond. It was so quiet, peaceful and relaxing.
There is a gate next to the cottages that leads into a large field perfect for dog walking and from there it is a 5 min walk into the village and there are also signposted walks through the countryside.
The pub in the village serves good food ( large portions) and we were able to sit outside for meals with our dogs.
It is a perfect location for exploring the area. We particularly enjoyed the steam train from Tenterden to Bodiam Castle.
All in all we he a lovely time and wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend this accomodation to anybody. Thank you Elaine.

Great little village and excellent local pub. Cottages fine for 2 and a small dog, could feel a little small for 4 adults, so hiring both cottages would be best. Elaine and Malcolm couldn't be more helpful and accommodating. Would hire cottage again without hesitation. Lovely pool, very quiet and peaceful location. Only a short drive to Tenterden 5mins apx about 25/30 mins to Rye..

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a nice review and we're so glad you enjoyed your stay with us.
As you say, the cottage would be a bit of a squeeze for four adults and we do always point this out when people enquire. We often have visitors with two adults and two children and people have always been happy.
We do hope to welcome you again sometime!
Best wishes,
Elaine and Malcolm

We chose Ransley Barn Cottages from the internet as the base for our week's holiday in Kent. The internet didn't do it justice.
Elaine welcomed us and showed us around the spotless Mallard Cottage and the pretty garden with swimming pool.
The weather was glorious for all but half a day of our stay and we made good use of the pool and the patio. The patio is in sun from early morning through to after 7pm at this time of year(July) which allows for meals al fresco, however there were not particularly comfy 'lounging' chairs if you wish to sunbathe.
The cottages are well placed for exploring the surrounding towns, villages, coast and country and the information in the cottage is great if you don't already have any ideas of where you may wish to visit. There is a good pub in easy walking distance, about 10 mins walk away which serves good food at reasonable prices. (Large portions, if you aren't a big eater consider sharing some of the main courses!)
We found the bed very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. I understand the rules about asking guests to provide their own towels for use around the pool but from personal experience I wonder if guests travelling from abroad might appreciate them being provided even at a small hire charge? (I had forgotten ours and bought cheaply from Asda!)
It was nice to have free access to the Internet via the wireless network, especially to be able to check opening times and timetables.
All in all this deserves a 'Highly recommended' from us and we wish Elaine well for the future.

My husband and I and our 10 month old son stayed in Mallard Cottage for 3 nights. Elaine was very welcoming and showed us all the features of the property including a heated pool, washer/drier, rotary clothesline, grassed yard, paved patio with table and chairs and a wood heater if you are there during winter. The cottage was very clean on arrival as was the high chair and portable cot provided on request. The cottage is very comfortable and has everything you need for a short or longer stay with a well equipped kitchenette and cleaning products provided. You will need to buy your own soap and toilet paper. The information folder in the cottage was very helpful when our son had an accident and we needed a 24 hour pharmacy (which, by the way, is only 20 minutes away in Ashford).

My husband and I stayed for four days in Mallard cottage and our daughter, son-in-law and toddler stayed in Heron. We found the cottages beautifully clean and well appointed and our welcome from the owners most friendly. We appreciated the welcome pack of jam and apple juice and the thoughtful pint of milk in the fridge.
The pool looked inviting but it was just a tiny bit cold to swim. We did, however, enjoy a bit of bird watching from our windows and the Dawn Chorus was amazing.
There is a lot to do in the area for all ages and some very good pubs and restaurants for the evening. We are already planning another visit and listing the friends who would enjoy their stay as much as we did.

Stayed at Mallard Cottage for a long weekend break. Cottage was very well equipped and the wood burning stove was really special for cosy nights in. Easy access to many sights in Kent and East Sussex - beautiful countryside, the coast, vineyards, restaurants and tearooms a plenty! Owners very welcoming and there if needed - the basket of goodies from local suppliers was a nice touch; the grapefruit and cranberry jam was delicious! Thank you. Would certainly stay again - would love to visit in the summertime to take advantage of the pool and garden space.

We stayed at Mallard Cottage recently and it was absolutely fantastic. When we arrived we were slightly later than we had planned and were greeted with a warm welcome from Elaine. The cottage was spotless as was the swimming pool. The cottage is in the perfect location to explore Kent especially the coast. An enjoyable week was has by everyone and I am sure we will be returning soon. This place is definitely worth considering if you are looking for somewhere in the countryside, quiet, peaceful with very nice and very helpful owners who are on site should you need any assistance...
