Owner description: A very attractive small market town with plenty of independent shops and small cafes. A beautiful High Street with a lovely tree lined avenue and greens, and an abundance of historic buildings to gaze at including a fabulous 11th century church. Grab a ride on one of the steam trains from Tenterden Town Station and take in the lovely views of the unspoilt surrounding countryside as the train trundles down the track. The title "Tenterden, the Jewel of the Weald" is richly deserved. Free car parking in Bridewell Lane car park every Sunday and on Bank Holidays

Very pretty High Street. Lots of independent quirky shops, and some lovely places to eat. Cream teas are a must when visiting Tenterden :-)

“Interesting and pretty”
Reviewed 28 December 2013

A good mix of eateries; antique shops and individual shops stocking a variety of items not found on "run of the mill" high streets. Staff in the shops we visited were very helpful and prepared to spend time assisting us.

“Dont Forget the Camera”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

You will not be disappointed with a visit to Tenterden High Street with it's many 'oldie worldie' shops. Many restaurants, pubs, tea rooms, antique shops, charity shops and quite a few chain shops for the girls/ladies. Webb's kitchen shop was a delight but unfortunately this beautiful listed building caught fire on 5th November but they still have two other shops for you to visit and hopefully pick up a few Christmas Presents. A camera would not go amiss.

“The Essence of Englishness”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

A wide thoroughfare, interesting traditional architecture and a wide range of shops, cafes, restaurants and businesses make this the quintessential English town.
There are a few 'chains' among the shops but also there are enough independant traders to give the town an individuality that, unfortunately, is sadly lacking in many other places around the country where 'metrolands' have destroyed their character.
Add to this the very accessible preserved Kent & East Sussex Railway the local museum and you have an almost perfect package.
Also, just down the road, there is the excellent Chapel Down vineyard.
You could easily spend a week here without getting bored.
