What a lovely family run hotel. All of the staff were friendly and polite and nothing was too much bother for them. Would definitely stay here again. We had a lovely room with a four poster bed overlooking the grounds. Scrupulously clean with an enormous bathroom.
the hotel, staff, surrounding etc etc were wonderful - very pretty, clean and friendly....
BUT - the restaurant. 3 of the 4 meals we ate had problems with the food, the orders or both!
The waiting staff were unsupervised ( despite other members of staff wandering around) and were barely trained - the orders were wrong, and the tables not laid correctly . The waiting time for meals clearly wasn't their fault but it was the gossip from local taxi drivers that made us understand some of the reasons for kitchen deficiencies (not from anyone in-house!)
We discussed our issues with management, so won't bore you with them here.
Chose this hotel using a Virgin gift. Good location for visiting National Trust properties nearby and the charming town of Tenterden. Staff were polite and efficient, the hotel was light, bright and clean. Our room was comfortable and well positioned with complimentary tea and coffee The excellent breakfast was served in the spacious bright restaurant. by some very obliging young staff.

Like many others, stayed here as part of the Virgin Experience with wine tour. Booking was easy and the team were so accommodating when we had to rebook because of covid. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean and brand new bathroom, comfy beds, tea and biscuits and bottled water.
We spent the evening inTenterden for dinner and returned with some other guests and enjoyed drinks from the bar in the very comfortable lounge along with log fire!
Breakfast was excellent - if a little early!
My only recommendation would be that the hotel could do more to support guests with taxis to and from Chapel Down - clearly many of the guests were doing the tour at the same time, taxies were delayed and hard to come by...would it not be possible to car pool guests? Just a thought.
Everything else was spot on!
We stayed as part of a chapel down wine tour. Though the only room was the silver suite as there was a wedding that night so we paid a bit extra as we’d already booked and paid for the tour. Room very clean and spacious with everything you though a little dated (but I’d rather that than an ultra modern but dirty room! ). We decided to eat in the restaurant and the gastro type menu was very tasty if limited but staff throughout were very pleasant and attentive so would stay again.
