A nice quiet drink during the day, somewhere to relax and enjoy the views, in the evening however, probably the best music in Whistable, just for you to enjoy.

This is one of the great coastal pubs, sitting outside on a summer's evening, enjoying a pint (or two) of Doom Bar bitter, watching the sea and listening to the gulls, as the night decends. The Neptune is situated right on the beach, it is so atmospheric, mainly locals drinking, great juke box selection (not too loud), and excellent bar staff - perfect to relax and get away from it all. Apparently there is live music at the weekend (Fri & Sat) too. Brilliant place.

Suggest visiting the Pearsons Arms after (or before) for dinner, which is 5 minutes walk away, get a table by the window, excellent seafood - around £65-00 for two with wine, or the Salt Marsh Restuarant in town.

Whilst the interior of this pub is scruffy & cramped, it's saving grace and star feature is its location, tucked just behind the sea wall, using the beach as it's beer garden. The tables here allow you to have a drink (albeit in plastic glasses) and take in the wonderful view over the Isle of Sheppey across the water - try to come for the unforgettable sunsets. The pub has three real ales including one local beer. The staff are pleasant but they sometimes have youngsters serving who can seem a bit aloof.

Stopped in for a quick drink while wandering around the otherwise immensely agreeable town of Whitstable. Obviously a pub for locals who view visitors with deep suspicion on account of them having the normal number of chromosomes, as opposed to the swarms of genetic dross who ordinarily accumulate here. My pint of Becks tasted like a mixture of vinegar, sputum and sour milk. This pub is actually an argument for coastal erosion: hopefully it will soon be washed into the sea. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
