We are just driving back from a night's stay at this hotel. We have had many enjoyable stays at this hotel in the past but sadly after yesterday's visit we will never return. Our arrival was soured by the rude and unsympathetic receptionist, who, when told that we had to cancel a room due to our colleague's father suffering a serious stroke, suggested we were probably lying. Wholly unsympathetic, we were appalled and still cannot believe it. We were told our only recourse was to simply put it in an email!

We had the misfortune to encounter the same receptionist serving in the hotel bar later, who promptly shut the bar at 12 and told everyone they should take their drinks to their rooms rather than sit in the lounge!!

Overall, standards in terms of customer service were beyond dreadful. No doubt as a result of leaving what can only be described as young people with a serious attitude problem to basically run the hotel.

hi
Hannah who was working on reception that day is a valued member of our staff, I have spoken to her. She did not say you were 'lying'. Our company policy when people unfortunately tell us of something that has affected their ability to stay with us within the cancellation period is to email the details to the hotel so I can judge each case on it's merits. Invariably in a case where a family member has been taken seriously ill we will not charge them for the stay, even though this invariably costs us money..
We stop serving drinks at midnight during the week, this is not unusual for a provincial Hotel, you stayed on a Thursday night.
Just because Hannah has youth on her side does not mean she is not more than capable of being in a position of responsibility where she can deal with challenging situations.

We had stayed at the Fishermans Huts for a friend's wedding in 2013 and been really impressed. So hubby decided to book us and our friends a night for my birthday in early February as a surprise for me. He wasn't able to book two huts for just one night when he booked a couple of months ahead but was told if he rang them two days before the weekend and there were free huts he could have them. Unfortunately he tried this but was advised they were fully booked. So imagine his anger when he went to book in and overheard someone else checking into four huts for just that night - not a great start to my birthday surprise! When he queried it he was told they had probably booked late on a special offer but couldn't explain why he hadn't been offered this when he had been told a note had been put on our booking requesting huts if possible.
When we went to our room we were so disappointed - after the pure pleasure of the huts it felt like we had gone back in time. The room was tiny, overlooked the car park, was stiflingly hot and very dated. It was a good thing we were only there for one night as there was nowhere to put any cases without falling over them. The middle of the toilet roll holder was missing from the bathroom so the toilet roll was placed on the floor too.
On the good side - the shower was good, the staff were helpful, breakfast was great, the location is a nice walk into town and it's right on the beach.
Overall - we wouldn't stay again unless we could stay in a hut. And the management seriously need to consider how they deal with bookings requests for the huts in the off season.

HI
We normally only book the huts out for fri and sat together to make it easier to clean the huts in time. Sometimes we will let people book single nights at short notice if it looks quiet. It was a mistake to make a note on your booking about single night availiability as this is something that can be easily overlooked. I think in the near future we may change the policy to allow booking single rooms at the weekends all the way through the winter to avoid confusion.
The rooms are undergoing a refurb at the moment and although this will not effect the view it will mean that all rooms have somewhere to put your luggage and a wardrobe.
Hope to see you in the Huts soon

We stayed for one night and was pleasantly surprised. We had booked a non-refurbished room at a lower rate so was not expecting anything special but the room was lovely. Everything was nice and clean and the view from the window was beautiful. Fortunately the sun was shining and this did help! We did wonder about a wardrobe but as we were only staying for one night so not a problem. Staff were excellent and the breakfast was lovely. Will go back again but we missed our dog so would have to find accomodation that accepts him too!

Very very nice and that. I mean really. Friendly staff, clean room. Good value and they lent us a bottle opener for our nice Italian wine, from co op. It was on offer (the wine not the hotel).

We weren't sure what we'd find having read some poor reviews from last year but could have been more pleasantly surprised. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment and now offers excellent standards of cleanliness, facilities, and service. The staff were welcoming and efficient, the breakfast was superb, and the evening meals outstanding value for money. The proprietors have clearly gone to considerable lengths to improve the hotel and this has paid off handsomly.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea-view room.

very clean great service an absolutely fantastic breakfast, but rooms in need off cleanup, the carpets were stained and in some places showing wear and tear, there was broken tiles in bathroom, the electric kettle lead didn't reach plug, i'm disabled an found this a problem as couldn't make myself a hot drink, it was on top off a tall chest off drawers a low small table would rectifie the problem, the walls needed a freshen up with plaster missing and cracked on part of the outside wall, we told staff at front desk at the time about these things we even wrote a letter to the manager but all was ignored, this was what we found with our stay over a year ago, we stayed there again a few months ago a year after our first stay an the problems are still ongoing.......

Room Tip: pay the bit extra an ask to stay in sea view room which all have large balconies

hard to know where to start. i have waited weeks to review to try and calm down, but the memory still serves fresh. the woman (i believe she may be the deputy manager) is quite frankly one of the rudest people i have ever encountered, in any industry. Upon checking in, the room we were staying in was filthy. The Bathroom was covered in hair and in mould. The towels were filthy. We opened the bed covers and there was what looked like faeces on the sheets. We called the duty manager, who said 'well, you got a discount because we are due to refurbish, so if you don't like it you can just go somewhere else' - 1 hour before a wedding on a Saturday that we had travelled 400 miles for. I explianed that I just wanted the room to be clean, and not any form of discount, she simply pushed a chambermaid into the room, shouted at her to clean the place, and then slammed the door swearing under her breath. I truly and honestly hope she reads this, and other, reviews, so she can simply see how she is being perceived by the people who are paying good, and a lot, of money to visit the hotel. There were multiple other issues with regards to the night porter, the waiting staff, the poor quality of food and drink, the general repair of the building, the general lack of all amenities and facilities, however these were all overshadowed by the actions of the deputy manager.
