We just love walking along here at any time of the year. There is a great little cafe on the slopes and a couple of pubs. It can be busy in the summer, but mainly it's a quiet-ish place, for walking or sitting and watching the sea. Don't expect slot machines and the like!

This is perfect on a warm/non blustery day and you can walk if you want to for miles along the coast. Very pretty beach huts along the way and well kept grass and pathways. Great views.

This is a fab stretch leading off east from Whitstable and along past tankerton. Even at bank holiday was peaceful and mellow. Some fine beach huts to admire. An easy, enjoyable walk.

I love the Tankerton slopes! Such a lovely setting for a quiet stroll in the sunshine, with a wonderful view across to Herne Bay on the right and Whitstable to the left. You can choose to walk either at the top of the slopes, along the grassy bank or make your way down the slopes to the lower level beach-side walkway.

The beach is a pebble-beach and has an array of colourful beach huts dotted along parts of it. It's a very popular area for both locals and tourists.

The slopes are also the site of the yearly Whitstable Regatta - a fun, family event with live music throughout the weekend, stalls, fun fair, children's entertainment, food stalls etc, with a fantastic firework display on the Saturday evening after sunset. For 2012 the date of the Regatta is August 18/19th.

The Marine Hotel is also situated along the slopes - a very handy spot for holidaymakers/honeymooners, especially if you book a room with a sea view!

Plenty of parking space along Marine Parade ("the slopes") but in the summer it does get very busy so you may need to park in a nearby street or use one of the car parks (very reasonable rates) situated just a 5 minute walk away.

There are WCs available along the slopes, too.

If you walk up the slopes, to the left, you will come to the lovely Whitstable Castle set in beautiful grounds.

I think it makes a great day out, especially for families with children. When my grandchildren come to stay we often take a picnic (weather permitting) and make a day of it. They love to explore the beach or play games up on the grassed slopes, stopping for an ice cream from the little refreshment hut on the slopes. It gets them out of the house and into the fresh air, and they always enjoy the day - and it's something that costs very little to do!

Above Tankerton Beach, decent walks up and down, the odd pub or three for the thirsty. Fish and chips for the hungry. Is kept quiet by a local covenant preventing new builds, dozens of colourful beach huts. No kiss me quick's here.
