I don't really want to share this little gem of a place as I want to be able to book this up whenever we have a spare weekend to get back. However, because the owner Rory is such a great guy and host it would be rude not to let others in on what a great time we had staying at the Boutique Beach bedrooms.
We decided to have both rooms as we wanted the space and ensure plenty of space for us and our two boys (five years and 9 months). I had great communication with Rory leading up to our visit and felt confident that our needs would be met, such as having the place available when we needed, a cot and bed all set up for the kids and even the use of his microwave to sterilise the baby bottles. This of course all made life a lot easier and we were able to not have to think about those annoying little details (when you have kids ;)
Talking of details, the decor truly has considered all the things you would want for a fabulous stay. Wine glasses, mini fridge, coffee machine and capsules, fluffy towels, big comfy beds and a bath tub that cannot be denied (especially with the bubble bath waiting to be used).
We were very lucky with the weather (the mini heatwave in April) and so spent most of our time out exploring beautiful Whitstable and doing the long walk up to Hearne Bay.
The BB bedrooms are in the perfect location and considering you're in such a good spot it was nice and quiet in the evening and mornings.
Will definitely be booking again soon.
These rooms were less than 30 steps from the beach at Whitstable, so in fairness you could not ask for a better location in all honesty. The rooms were accessed from the main street through a private gate which led to a small garden - where patio doors led you into the first room; the second room has access through the first. Both rooms are of an incredible size, the first one has a bath and a separate shower and toilet, the second room has a larger shower room. Both are well finished with a TV, Sky to view in both rooms and great tea provisions and a superb coffee machine if you prefer, along with a (wine) fridge should you want to chill your own drinks. The beds are HUGE and comfy with loads of duvets and quilts to keep you warm on the chillier nights - wardrobes and drawers are present for you to unpack into as well. Rory kept in touch regularly before my trip to ensure all was good, and was on hand to answer any questions I had at any point - great property, reliable owner - worth staying if you want a break, like a walk and enjoy feeling like you are in a boutique hotel when you arent
I cannot actually review this accommodation as we did not see it. Unfortunately, it was not available when we arrived as we were told on the doorstep that one of the two rooms booked had subsequently been let to someone else. This was despite having been booked 3 months in advance, paid for in full, and confirmed by both the owner and HolidayLettings. My birthday celebration had been ruined. We waited on the beach while the owner attempted to find us something else comparable (he said he was an estate agent and had lots of contacts with cottages nearby). A phone call from him later offered a room in a hotel next door, plus one of the original rooms booked. But, as two single women, we didn't want to be in separate accommodation so refused the offer. We had to sit on the beach for 4 hours until my birthday lunch and drink had worn off and made it safe and legal to drive back home. We also had to cancel dinner booked at the Oyster Company as I felt it unreasonable to be driving home very late at night and I wouldn't have been able to drink, our main reason for booking local rooms for the night.
At first, we were offered the original rooms booked on an alternative date of our choice (presumably only if available), by the owner, as free compensation but this was later withdrawn when I asked about compensation for travelling costs (petrol, Dartford Crossing etc). His response text was "don't push it". Tripadvisor will only refund the money paid out for the booking, saying they are only the 'advertising platform' and aren't liable for any compensation or extra costs.
From the outside, there was a lot of scaffolding around as a new development seemed to be going on adjacent to the accommodation and the entrance was seriously affected. I imagine there is a lot of building work/noise on weekdays.
The whole experience has been very disappointing and stressful. I remain out of pocket and missed out on a long-planned birthday celebration. I feel both the owner and Tripadvisor have been negligent in their roles and responses.
We had a great time and Rory was able to accommodate our son with a bed in the room for our last minute half-term trip. The room was lovely, Rory was very helpful and the location was a very short walk right to the beach. We would definitely recommend it to anyone else.
Perfect location for a stay in Whitstable-beach on the doorstep and shops and attractions in easy walking distance. The accommodation is a delight - lovely, individually decorated rooms with everything provided to make a stay there really comfortable. the owner, Rory, was really helpful and easy to communicate with. Made it all very easy for us. Would definitely stay there again.
