“Lovely micropub in a quiet Tankerton street”

While on holiday in Tankerton I almost walked past the Tankerton Arms and missed it, not knowing it was there. Stopping to look in, I saw simple wooden tables, benches against the walls, and barrels of beers on stollage in a back room. There was a choice of 4 beers chalked on a blackboard - the choice changes regularly as the beers are drunk. The atmosphere is excellent and friendly - locals and strangers chatting to each other, a buzz of conversation and laughter. Just like a proper pub, but with all real ales and ciders, a choice of a a red or white wine and some soft drinks - and no lagers or spirits. The hours are also shorter, so there's a really convivial feel right up to closing time at 9.30pm. Naturally, I had to check it out on several occasions - excellent every time!

The Tankerton Arms is a relatively new establishment but it feels like a relic from a simpler time.
A large room, with high stools and benches on both sides and no bar, just a blackboard with today's cask beers and ciders. A very personable young man asks you what you fancy and off he goes to an A/C room where the beer is stored. That's it, no music, no slot machines, minimal food options (although there are scotch eggs, and who doesn't love those)
Such a lovely simple idea, I wish it was in my street.

The Tankerton Arms supplies a terrific and unique drinking experience, probably largely because it doesn't try slavishly to ape the ambience of a typical pub. Its staff are warm, knowledgeable and expert at keeping the ales. A great place!
