“Shabby. No atmosphere.”
Review of The Peter Cushing

Cheap drinks which in whitstable is a plus. The large single room with high ceiling means there is no atmosphere in this place. Needs music.
Another thought would be to maybe ID people who are clearly underage. And then not to ignore them as they lob bottles/fruit/coins from one side of the pub at other unhappy customers!!!
Seems to be poorly managed, never saw a manager during my stay.

I assume that the building was the old cinema? Inside, it was dark and gloomy, it was really hard to get a drink due to the bar staff being busy and not noticing who was next, but served whoever was in front of them! Didn't bother to look at menu as (1) we would never get served and (2) if we did get served, how long would we have to wait! We finished our drinks very quickly and left, never to return!

Very pleasant staff, cheap beer, decent surroundings. Had a birthday party there and the staff fell over themselves to make it enjoyable. Loos a long haul away. TV in the background not obtrusive, more mobile wallpaper. Memorabilia of Peter Cushing sparse but does remind you of who the place is named after. Unlike some Wetherspoons it is clean and money has obviously been spent on its internals.
Downside, one of the barkeepers didn't seem to know the price of beer or how to use the till but was intelligent enough to be able to laugh at the lesson I gave him in adding up, hence the title.

They have decorated this old cinema very well as if it is still a cinema for Peter Cushing. It was a trip back in time as I used to visit this cinema as a child 50 years ago. It is all art deco lovely I could have cried seeing it with the old projector in the entrance doorway and the stainglass windows upstairs. It was a lovely treat. The bar staff were very interesting to talk to having grown up in th area. Thank you Wetherspoons

This is ok as pubs go, nothing outstanding but it's worth a look at the conversion job they have done of the former cinema.
They have kept the theme local too by using one of Whitstable's famous residents ...... Peter Cushing.
