“Great night out with entertainment”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

I am astonished to read the comments about stafff and service on some of these reviews. I have been going here for the past 5 years and could not have been treated better - it sounds like a completely different place to the one I know. I only go to the entertainment events- provably 3/4 a year and these have always been good fun and a night out with a difference. Friends have always enjoyed these evenings too
I would definitely recommend!

“A good venue with good food”
Reviewed 3 May 2014 via mobile

Went here for a works night out, the food was good and tasty. Serves was good and attention to all of the parties need was great. We all opted for the buffet style menu which was very good and reasonably priced. All in all a good experience that I would recommend.

“Unfriendly staff, totally disinterested in their customers.”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

A couple of weeks ago, on a Friday night, four of us walked into the Yantze at Tankerton. It was 9.08pm and, eventhough it was a Friday night, there were only 5 other diners in the place! We walked over to the young girl who was behind the bar and asked if we could have a table for 4. She looked at the clock and asked if we had booked. We hadn't but seeing as there were only 2 tables taken out of about 30, we couldn't see a problem! She said that we could eat there but we had to be out by 10.30pm as she wanted to close. On their web site it states that on a Friday they are open until midnight. Agreeing to be out by 10.30 she then seated us - walking past at least 10 empty tables to put us on a table with a wall separating 2 of the seats - we would have had to peer around this wall to talk to each other! We asked for another table. Once seated, we ordered straight away a bottle of red wine, sparkling water and soft drinks. We asked for the 'all you can eat' buffet menu. The waitress told us that they stop serving that menu at 9pm and it was now 9.10pm! We politely asked if we could still have this menu as it was only 9.10pm and by now we were the only people in there - on a Friday night. She said 'no'. To order from the other menu for 4 people worked out very expensive so we said that we would leave and try somewhere else. She just said 'ok' and let us leave! Our first drinks order alone would have come to about £35 and the meal would have been £68. More drinks would have pushed our bill to about £140 but this disinterested and sullen girl was quite prepared to let us go elsewhere. With small, local businesses struggling in this economic climate, I wonder what the owners would have made of this attitude?
On Thursday 17th April, the four of us stupidly tried the Yantze again! We arrived at 7.45pm - time enough for the buffet menu this time. The same girl as before again asked if we had a booking - we said 'no'. She again looked at the clock - 7.45pm - looked around the room - this time 3 tables were being used! Surely she wasn't going to say 'no' again? She didn't but we wished she had! We ordered drinks and from the 'all you can eat' menu we ordered 2 platters of starters to share. The waitress told us that this was too much food and we can;t waste any! We explained that if we only ordered a platter for two, there would not be enough for us to share out between the four of us! Starters came and we enjoyed it but we were all too 'scared' to ask for more. We ordered our main dishes and these were put on our table with utter disgust - she was almost tutting at us for ordering several dishes. What she seemed to forget was that there was 4 of us and each dish wouldn't have been enough for 2! The food was just 'ok' but we have eaten much worse food than this in other restaurants, but because of the lovely staff and ambience of the restaurant, the food was forgiven. Here you are made to feel unwelcome and very awkward. There is no atmosphere here at all. Wish we'd never gone back. We wont be returning or recommending. My friend was getting so annoyed at our treatment that she was going to speak to this girl but I didn't want to cause a scene. There was another girl waiting at tables this night who was a different case altogether - when she realised that our treatment from this other girl (who I think was her boss) was downright rude, she came over and appeased us. Her attitude, manner and personality was lovely - just too late to save our night out though.
A sweet, old couple were eating nearby and their bill came to over £50 but they were payed no attention at all. At the end of their meal, the elderly lady went to get their own coats, helped her older husband on with his coat, led him across the restaurant - even having to hold the door open for him whilst trying to help him with the other hand, as he had a walking stick. They went off into the night without a 'goodnight, thank you for your custom' or 'goodnight, hope you enjoyed your evening'. MORE LIKE COULDN'T GIVE A DAMN, DON'T COME AGAIN - and we wont be!

“Menu a complete muddle and expensive,no children's menu and drinks were expensive too”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

My husbands birthday there were 10 of us including one child. The bill for food was £160 and the drinks £80. They only had bottled beer at £3 20 a bottle. The draught beer was £3 50 but the manager said the pump was broken so we had to buy bottles. We had four glasses of red wine, 12 bottled beers and 14 diet cokes for this money. The set menu is done in twos so if there is an odd one hard luck. You then have to choose from the main menu which is more expensive. The food was plonked on the table so you didn't know which dish belonged to which person. I rang and asked to be put on a nice table as it was my husbands birthday and we were put in the corner, and considering the place was half empty I did not understand it. I have been here before and it was very nice. Not now gone down hill unfortunately. The food wasn't bad. The concept is nice if run properly with good food at reasonable prices and the drinks with some proper draft beer. There is music and a small dance floor which could make a nice evening out. My advice is don't waste your money unless they get there act together. We will not be going again!

“Takeaway such a shame”
Reviewed 30 March 2014 via mobile

Ordered a takeaway to be delivered last night around 6 making sure it was before the busy part as they do excellent music nights and having been to quite a few for a change from our normal Chinese takeaway we thought we would have a treat and order from the Yantze.
THe food was between warm-cold and seemed very greasy. We had king prawn sweet and sour Cantonese style warm but nice, we also were supposed to of had chicken sweet and sour Cantonese style it was sliced deep fried dry chicken meat on a bed of beansoots covered in black stuff I presume was sauce definitely not sweet and sour.
The fried chicken balls the batter was nice the meat I would say was overcooked chicken as it was stringy the same texture as the previous chicken Cantonese.
The crispy duck was cold and crispy all the way through. I had the crab and sweetcorn soup the crab must of walked past the bowl as there was a couple of flakes in there they must of used dishwasher for the juice because it had no taste and about 10 pieces of corn.
The crispy chilli beef was good but cold.
The char sui pork noodles was what it said the noodles were as if they had been soaked in warm water strained and the pork added no stir frying as they were the only 2 ingredients no oil, onions or spices etc.
The barbeque spare ribs were warm and very tasty but the meat liked to stay on the bones.
The chicken fried rice was sticky rice with moist chicken added no stir frying occured and no attempt of seasoning.
We liked the look of the Yantze speciality Slced Aubergine in Szechuan style so we ordered that there was a good mix of ingredients but the sauce again was such a let down.

We use trip advisor all the time but this is our first review which must prove our disgust with this poor takeaway. Would advise to stay away rather than take away but go to the show nights where at least if there is a problem you can deal with it straight away. I will of course be phoning them today to voice my disgust in person.
