“Poor administration, slow meals service”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

Came as part of a coach party. I had previously e-mailed Reception to reserve a ground floor room with a walk-in shower. The reply said that a ground floor double room had been booked, and that none of the rooms had a walk-in shower. On arrival, the girl denied having seen any e-mail request. However the room on the first floor was acceptable since the bath edge was not too high. It was a good size and quiet. I wonder what had happened to the e-mail promise ?

Another guest was heard to be complaining at Reception that his promised Conference facilities had not been provided. He was not happy.

The breakfast service was well-provided with a good range of food and very helpful staff.

However, the dinner service was terrible, taking over two hours to serve pre-ordered food to about 45 clients. I have never had to wait so long, even in less developed countries ! There was obviously a big shortage of staff in this area. Following complaints to Reception, we had one dinner served by a more senior manager in less than one hour ! So, it could be done....

A speaker, talking about the local area, should have been booked for the first evening. This had been overlooked and nobody came. A different speaker was provided for the second evening, at about thirty minutes notice. He gave a different talk which, although well-presented, did not really fit the original expectation.

Overall, I shudder to think what a large conference or other gathering would be presented with in the way of service.

Oh, by the way, the bar prices seemed to be very high. I understand that there are two ordinary pubs within ten minutes walk !!

GOOD LUCK !

We stayed here when we came to watch some of our friends compete in IRONMAN Bolton. It was a nice distance from the start, enabling us to cycle to the swim start. We cycled back to a very nice breakfast, before checking out. Reception staff were very helpful and thin on the ground so they were very busy. Room was clean and comfortable.

We have just spent Saturday night here as part of the National holidays coach break. It is a lovely place, situated on the outskirts of Bolton with views over the hills. Check in was pretty smooth, but would have appreciated more info on room location. We were in room 85 ( jumble cottages). Lovely big room with king size bed and ensuite. Shower a bit slow to warm up but otherwise very good. Dinner was served in Last drop Inn to the rear of the complex. We had the choice of 3 meals and had to let reception know beforehand. As they then knew our choices it made the 1.5 hours for dinner to be served unnecessary .the staff were lovely but it would appear not enough of them. A wedding party was in evidence. Shortly after I fell asleep we heard a row going on, but I soon got back to sleep. Breakfast next morning was in the main hotel block.plenty of choice but it would seem they were slow to replenish the hot plates ( bacon, sausage etc) which made for a long slow moving queue. As we were leaving fairly early on the Sunday morning we didn't have time to sample the spa facilities, but we looked at the swimming pool, through the window. It looked good. All in all an excellent location, lovely room, good food but marred by not enough staff on duty to cope with the meal service.

Stayed at this hotel for four nights with a coach party. Long corridor's and lots of stairs make it unsuitable for disabled clients, could not see any wheelchair access to the bar. Room had not been hovered all week, crumbs still on the floor from the previous guests. Informed by reception staff that no rooms have walk-in showers. Meal service was slow.

Room Tip: Room 46 - The Lancaster Suite.

Have been here a couple of times using the overnight spa package. The pool, spa facilities and outdoor water area that is warm and overlooks pleasant views are very good, you could easily spend a couple of hours relaxing here although the steam room this time did have very little steam in it. The girls who do the treatments are lovely and professional and although shorter on this deal, they are of good quality. We were upgraded to am executive room as we went mid week so our room was not as dated as others may be and included dressing gowns, complementary water and many free toiletries! I agree with others that the restaurant in the evening is very short staffed so there is a delay in receiving food but Tugay who seemed to be in charge was very aware of this and was apologetic and did genuinely care whether we were enjoying our meal. He really should be given more waiters to work with as he was rushed off his feet and some were starting to grumble at him but obviously the slow, albeit friendly service is not his fault. All of the staff we talked to were very cheerful and polite with one man, Ravin I think who serves breakfast and works in the cafe in the daytime, even remembering us from last year. The package was cheaper than others around and for this we can not criticise the hotel or service we experienced. The outdoor pool area is a real plus point!

The hotel was old, shoddy and in desperate need of repair. The room was fresh out of the 1920s, the telephone was probably older than my boyfriend and i put together. The hairdryer was awful and again, probably older than the Queen of England. Don't even get me started on the shower - if you want a dribble and a bit of soap then this is the place for you but otherwise not powerful enough to make you feel clean. If you decide to opt for a bath instead then you best hope you're not tall/and or obese because this also was very old and built to body types more like those typical in the 1950s. My 6ft2 boyfriend had no chance of sitting comfortably in it. Despite the room and its features, we had a good night's sleep and the bed was comfy. We stayed here for a wedding and the event itself was stunning, just a shame the room couldn't live up to this. The staff also couldn't care less about us on check in but maybe that's because they were busy - they had two weddings on the day of arrival.

Spent one night in one of the Hotel's Cottage Rooms. Very clean and spacious a few minutes walk from reception. Not ideal for anyone with mobility problems and the wet leaves on the flagstones at the foot of the stairs leading to our room were a bit of a hazard. However that said, the room was exceptionally comfortable and quiet. The hotel advertises free wifi but we did not have access in our location.

What marred our stay was the poor service. We order our meal at 19.15 and the first course arrived at 20.05. This wasn't the fault of the hard worked staff but there only seemed three who were actually waiting on diners. The drinks service was hit and miss trying to attract the attention of someone who resembled a drinks waiter!

Our three course meal took just over two and a half hours to be served which is unacceptable. The meal overall was very good but the lack of a timely service meant that this detracted from the meal.

Overall, a lovely hotel, good location but the service just was not good enough.
